About SportDOG

Dog Training Gear for Every Season

It’s important that your dog’s gear is built to withstand the elements you face in the field. That’s why nothing from SportDOG gets into your hands without rigid testing. Whether you and your dog are doing daily water training in summer or breaking through winter lake ice for long retrievals, SportDOG gear can handle it.

How Do the SportDOG Models Differ?

Most SportDOG e-collars are waterproof and rechargeable and feature tone, vibe and static stim settings. The big differences between the models are collar distance range, number of dogs one remote can talk to, and remote type. Choose from remotes with features like OLED display or a tactile dial for no-look operation.

Questions & Answers

can I buy additional collars
Answer by ChewyJan 02, 2020
Additional collars can be added to this system. The compatible collar is listed on our site as SportDOG SDR-AF Add-A-Dog Collar Receiver.

Does this stay on all the time, have an auto shut off, on/off button/switch?
Answer by ChewySep 01, 2021
This training system does not turn off automatically. To turn the collar receiver off, press and release the On/Off button when the Receiver Indicator Light comes on solid red and the Collar Receiver beeps for 2 seconds. To extend the life between charging cycles, turn the Collar Receiver off when it is not in use. The approximate battery life between charges is 50 to 70 hours (140 to 160 hours), depending on frequency of use.

This states it is waterproof, Can my dog swim in the water 5-6 hours without taking the collar off and it still work without problems?
Answer by ChewyApr 15, 2020
SportDOG collars are equipped with DryTek® technology making it completely waterproof so they can absolutely leave this receiver collar on their dogs during their swim time. Frequent trips to the pool will not bother them at all. It is recommended to rinse the receiver collar off with fresh water daily once the dog has finished using the pool for the day.

Is this suitable for a 150 lb dog? Most other brands state up to eg 90 lbs.
Answer by ChewySep 12, 2022
This collar is suitable and effective for all dogs over 8 pounds.

SportDog 825x

I love this long range trainer. Great easy control with 2 dogs. My Fur kids love being off leash on their walks. This remote training systems allows me to safely do that right next to our busy road. I only have to use the tone.

Our Dog LOVES this!

We've been using this collar many times per day for nearly 6 years. It allows our retriever to run & play in our big yard without us worrying about him taking off after an animal or chasing a delivery truck. He gets a LOT more exercise than he could ever get on a leash. It's great to have choices, but usually the sound or vibration is all he needs to ensure obedience. Full disclosure: I'm buying another one now because the remote won't hold a good charge for very long anymore and we don't want to have to charge it every day. It has to be snug in order for the shock to work & it's a little more difficult with long-haired dogs, but product comes with interchangeable tips to accomodate. I believe you have to be careful to not let the shock delivery tips come in contact with any metal on dog's 2nd collar. We put on one collar or the other so it doesn't have to be tight.

Reliable for many years

We've been using this professionally for nearly a decade. I like the SportDog for some dogs and a different professional brand for others. I went searching for a new model to buy an additional unit and just kept coming back to these - so now we have two! I recommend these collars often to my clients. It's a great piece of equipment with easy-to-use controls. I've had clients try cheap models from other online sites and find this one incredibly smooth. Can't beat these pro brands!

Very unreliable

We've been having recall problems with our dog and bought this to help. We've used these with a previous dog and reliability is key so that the dog gets a reminder precisely when it is needed. This collar works about 2 out of 10 times the button is pushed and has been a complete waste of money.
