About SportDOG

Dog Training Gear for Every Season

It’s important that your dog’s gear is built to withstand the elements you face in the field. That’s why nothing from SportDOG gets into your hands without rigid testing. Whether you and your dog are doing daily water training in summer or breaking through winter lake ice for long retrievals, SportDOG gear can handle it.

How Do the SportDOG Models Differ?

Most SportDOG e-collars are waterproof and rechargeable and feature tone, vibe and static stim settings. The big differences between the models are collar distance range, number of dogs one remote can talk to, and remote type. Choose from remotes with features like OLED display or a tactile dial for no-look operation.

I need to buy a replacement cradle for charging, which one do I need?
Answer by ChewyDec 31, 2019
At this time, we do not carry replacement charging cables for this model however, it is available by contacting the manufacturer directly.

How many collars can be added?
Answer by ChewyMar 24, 2020
The YardTrainer 100 is a 1-dog system and does not have the capability of adding additional collars.

I have 2 dogs. Can I use 2 sets (collars/remotes) at the same time or will there be some frequency issues? I'd hate to zap both of them with 1 remote.
Answer by ChewyMay 12, 2022
The collar and receiver must be paired together, so 1 remote won't activate 2 collars.

What is the difference between the 100 and the 100S
Answer by ChewyOct 13, 2021
The SportDOG YardTrainer 100 is designed for basic obedience training around the house, yard, or park - any situation where your dog is within 100 yards of you. The SportDOG YardTrainer 100S was built for more stubborn and easily distracted dogs by offering its static stimulations in a higher range than the YT-100.

Dead after 3 months

I wanted to love this collar. It is the second one we ordered. But after just a few months the collar is unresponsive even when fully charged. No beep, no vibration, no shock. Completely useless. We needed this for our bigger pup who is half German Shepherd half Border Collie. He doesn't pay attention well at all without reinforcement... And he only does mildly ok with treats and positive reinforcement. Now I'm out over $130 and can't afford to replace the collar. Disappointed is an understatement.

3 week lifespan

This was my second SportDog collar within the year. This one lasted only three weeks. It seems to have shorted out after some swimming, despite being advertised as waterproof. Disappointing.

doesn’t work

Do not buy if you have a husky or any dog with very thick fur. It does suggest shaving a spot to get closer to skin, but it’s not recommended to shave huskies. Tested shock on myself very easily ignored and doesn’t hold a charge very long. Over all, to pricy for a collar that doesn’t work. Bought a $40 shock collar to replace this one and it works.

Lots of versatility ,

I love this collar for its versatility. My dog only needs a gentle reminder for most behavior corrections, so I can simply use the vibration to get her attention. If needed though, I can use a series of increasing stim settings when she is really intent on her own purpose.

Just what I needed

I have a rescue pup who is afraid of almost everything, blowing wind, leaves and I could go on and on, who barks incessantly though I have avoided using a collar due to fear of sending her over the edge with anxiety. The collar, used only on tone and vibration, has worked extremely well and already as soon as she sees it she is a new dog! Extremely happy with this purchase!

Works as described

I have only had this collar for a few days now, but seems to work as described. I don’t recommend going over 4 as my dog yelped. I tried shock 1 and 2 on my own hand and it seems to have a pretty strong shock. I am using this collar as a personal electric fence. I bought flags and placed them around the perimeter. I don’t like how electric fences shock them when they come back into the yard.

Sensitive Dog

On setting one of eight the level adjustment, my 50# Australian Shepherd jumps with all four feet in the air and yelps. I wish it were a 100 step device. I tried it on my hand and neck and did not find it traumatic. The transmitter battery life seems short.
