My 16 year old dog was diagnosed with CKD and would not eat any of the vet recommended foods. I found this on my own and she ate it for almost a year when she passed from that awful disease. At end times I had to add some bone broth or organic baby food. My other dog who does not have kidney disease loves it and it has good ingredients so now he eats it. My vet was not aware of this brand but was very happy with how my dog did on it and was going to recommend to other patients. CKD is such a hard disease to manage long term but I was very happy I had 12 months after my dog's diagnosis and she was 16 years old.

This dog food caused diarrhea in my senior dog. It started about 3 days into feeding the product. After discontinuing, it took an additional 4 days of a rice & rice water diet for my dog to get back to having a normal stool. It may work well for some dogs but that was not the case for my senior girl.

Won’t eat it

I bought this for my dog who has been recently been diagnosed with kidney disease. I did a slow transition and have tried everything but she just won’t eat this. Adding pumpkin, eggs, broth, just about anything I can think of and she will like around the kibble. I was hopeful as this is a much more affordable alternative to prescription food, but it’s more THAT she eats than WHAT she eats! And chewy did have great customer service getting this bag to me promptly!

I'm a licensed wildlife rescuer who helps with rehab and soft release as well as permanent placement for animals that can't be rehabilitated. Unfortunately, the availability of high quality exotic animal food is pretty non-existent, not to mention financially beyond reach, and I have to create my own formulations to make the food safe for the species I'm helping. This is a spectacular food that has a nice high Ca:P ratio, so I can leave out as is even if I can't supplement with fresh food, and know that even though it's processed, it's a healthier option likely to create minimal harm. I like the product so much and the option of high quality without requiring an Rx, I've asked the company to consider expanding into super healthy feline options to fill some massive gaping holes. Hopefully they'll pursue that, but for now I'm just grateful squarepet even exists, especially after losing PetGuard during the pandemic, who was my solid go to for higher quality processed food for nonhuman animals. This product is both literally and figuratively a lifesaver. I only wish it was more affordable or could be bought in some way to save money. I'm feeding a lot of mouths on my ends & every dollar counts. I have to give Chewy a plug here, too, as I've tried buying this from a lot of different sources trying to save a dollar here and there, only to have bags arrive with tears, which is a HUGE NO NO in highly humid Florida. I think I've had far fewer problems with Chewy than other suppliers, which really helps too because the cost is so high, sometimes I have to buy just before I run out and really need that bag in good condition and the food safe when it arrives. Excellent product (of course assuming the specs I'm receiving are accurate).

My sweet girl is 15 years old. Recently diagnosed with kidney disease (stage 2). Since then I've tried multiple new food options. I tried cooking her human grade fresh food every week. I tried the super expensive pre-made human grade dog food options. All of which led to vomitting (I think they are all too complex for her tummy to digest). Finally after much google searching I decided to give this a go. She must like the taste because she gobbles it right up. She hasn't vomitted one single time since starting the food (it's been 3 weeks). She's happy, healthy and full of energy. Final test will be her next round of kidney bloodwork. Hoping the change in diet has helped. Recommend of picky eaters with sensitive stomachs!

My frenchie was diagnosed with bladder stones so I immediately started doing my research and stumbled upon this food to hopefully help dissolve the stones. The vet couldn’t get her in to have the stones surgically removed until 2 weeks later so she had been on this food and a cranberry/potassium citrate vitamin for those 2 weeks. Just went into the vet this morning for her surgery and I requested an X-ray to make sure the stones were still there. To all of our surprise they were completely gone! I’m so excited we didn’t have to do the surgery all because of the change in her diet. Thank you SquarePet for a great food!

I was looking for a low phosphorus dog food for my elderly dog with some kidney issues. She ate one bowl of this food and then refused to eat it anymore. It has a strange smell, It's not like regular dog food smell. I ended up mixing it in with my other dog's food because she eats anything. I would recommend starting out with a small bag first to see if your dog likes it.
