What diameter of banister can it attach to? I have a wrought iron banister with a very small diameter. How does it secure to the banister?

This Gate is suitable for openings 31 – 46 inches in Width. This does not require drilling when installing. It comes with a special mounting system that can handle banister-to-banister installation or single banister installation at the top or bottom of stairs, as well as hardware installation in doorways and other openings. When purchased, it will comes with a set of instructions on installation.

On the wall mounted side what is the gap between the first bar and the wall?

The gap is 2.5 inches wide for the hinge side when assembled to the wall side, as the latch side cannot be attached to the wall.
Is this gate a pressure mounted gate?

This gate is not pressure mounted. It accommodates banister-to-banister, banister-to-wall, or even wall-to-wall installation. No drilling is required when installing on square-top banister posts. A hardware installation kit is included for wall to wall installation.
