Are these black soldier fly larvae alive?

Answer by ChewyAug 23, 2021
These larvae are alive.

What media should I keep them in and what to feed them until use. Thanx

Answer by ChewyJul 02, 2021
It is recommended to leave Larvae in the container they came in at room temperature. They don't need to be refrigerated unless you plan on using them for more than two weeks. If you want them to go dormant, keep them at 55F which is warmer than a refrigerator. The larvae don't need to be fed but you can offer them soft fruit. Just be aware that they won't be as clean in their container since they will create excrement.

What is the easiest way to clean and prep these for feeding?

Answer by ChewyAug 31, 2022
The best way to sift the larvae is with a Symple Sifter, that is available through the manufacturer directly. You can also rinse the ones you need but just be sure to dry them off as they can scale anything when wet.

Will these turn into flies if my pet doesn’t eat them fast enough?

Answer by ChewySep 01, 2021
BSFL turn black when there are pupating. This means they are about to turn into flies. The shelf-life of these grubs is at least 2 weeks when stored as instructed.

Chewy already made things right even though it was not their fault. This is the only company available for our region and I will not buy from them again. The container was open because the box and inner container were crushed. All of the larvae were inside the box being tossed around. We opened it outside since there was a delay in delivery and I wanted to make sure none of the larvae had reached maturation. Thankfully they had not and they are still alive because the ice pack that was in the box had completely defrosted.

Good product. Horrible shipping.

The larvae arrived alive but the box was severely damaged almost to the point the top came off the container.

I get these for my bearded dragon who is a juvenile, so he needs a lot of protein in his diet right now. First of all, they say these worms are medium size but the last 2 containers I've gotten have had a lot of seriously tiny ones in comparison to the medium size. Anyway, I ran out of worms before my next autoship so I went ahead and placed an order. It has been nearly a week since the order has been placed and I was supposed to get them today but now it says they won't be here until tomorrow. Very inconvenient for someone with a growing beardie, may have to look elsewhere to get these.
