About Taste of the Wild Dog Food
The Diet Nature Intended
They might not be wolves or coyotes, but today's domestic dogs share the same ancestral cravings. To satisfy these instinctual appetites, Taste of the Wild wet and dry formulas are made with real, roasted meat plus fruits, vegetables and legumes that are chosen for their specific health benefits.
Energy That Lasts
Taste of the Wild is made with premium meats like wild boar; buffalo; smoked salmon and turkey; and roasted bison, lamb, quail, venison and duck. Every formula is grain-free and provides lasting energy with complex carbs from sweet potatoes and legumes. These highly digestible proteins and fiber-rich carbohydrates will keep your pup feeling full and energized throughout the day.
Immune System Support
Since 70% of your pet's immune system is found in the gut, it makes sense to choose a food that's good for the digestive tract. Taste of the Wild includes prebiotics and species-specific probiotics with bacteria that's naturally found in a dog's GI tract. The proprietary K9 Strain probiotics are added after the kibble is cooked so your dog gets guaranteed live, active cultures that support healthy digestion.
Maximizing Nutrient Absorption
To help your pet's body absorb all of the beneficial minerals in her food, Taste of the Wild recipes have chelated minerals. That means they can easily attach to proteins for absorption during digestion. So your canine pal will enjoy the full value of every carefully selected mineral that these foods have to offer.
Perfectly Balanced Omegas
Taste of the Wild gives your pup just the right dose of omega fatty acids in every bite. Marine-sourced omega-3 comes from salmon oil, smoked salmon or ocean fish meal, or a combination of these ingredients. Omega-6 from plant sources balance out the omega-3s, and they work together to help maintain your pet's skin and coat health and to support overall wellness.
Ingredients for Better Health
The powerful superfood trio of blueberries, raspberries and tomatoes can be found in every delicious recipe, along with their immune-boosting properties.
TOMATOES AND TOMATO POMACE: Help support overall health by providing vitamin C, soluble fiber and rich in concentrated lycopene, a premier antioxidant.
BLUEBERRIES: Antioxidant-rich superfood that's full of flavor and loaded with vitamins C and E, healthy carbs, dietary fiber and manganese.
RASPBERRIES: Delicious berries packed with potassium, manganese, copper, iron and magnesium, and they also provide fiber and antioxidants.

Looking to maybe change to fish based food due to allergies and atopic dermititis (need more fatty acids), but I'm worried about the smell. Does this food have a heavy fish odor?
Answer by • Dec 29, 2017
Since this food is made with real natural ingredients, there may be a fish smell.

Answer by • Jun 28, 2017

My black lab cannot eat chicken, beef or milk products due to allergies. I check this dog food the veterinarian recommended fish/salmon. Many dog food might say salmon, but also has chicken or beef by-product or fat. Since my 3 dogs are on this dog food their coats have turned shiny and hair feels silky.

Im sure its fine, but..
We heard great things about Taste of the Wild, it was recommended by friends a fellow Lab owners, so we thought we would give it a try for a healthier option. Im sure its fine, but out Lab does NOT like it at all, and she eats just about anything.

Great dry dog food
I have a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and if you know his breed their middle name is allergies so of course I have to be careful on what he eats and his surroundings I have tried many dog foods and the only one that works for him is the salmon food but he does not like the smell or flavor I searched for the Taste of wild and decided to try it out. My Brownie loves it. Finally a dry dog food that has lowered his allergies problems and that he loves to eat.

Unbelievable
We have two miniature Australian Shepherds who are both unbelievably picky. We were going through dog food brands like water. We even tried the Farmer's Dog---way too expensive!! My children were feeding this, so we decided to give it a try. I was concerned that coming off soft food they wouldn't eat this. They are bonkers for this kibble!! At first I put some home made food I had made on top thinking I would break them in slowly, but that wasn't even necessary I discovered. They love the salmon. The kibble bites are just fine for smaller dogs as well as larger ones. I am so pleased to finally find something that is not only good for them, but something they really love, too! My dogs have never ran to their bowl to eat, but they do now!

Great chew bone
My dog has a tendency to get chewed bones stuck in his throat, but this bone he has been working on for days and not one piece of it stuck in his throat!! I'm going to buy them again.

Dog food - no grain
After Blue Buffalo salmon recipe went to including grain I decided to try this as an alternative.
My dogs (3) all like it and it seems a reasonable nutritional option. I would prefer a higher percentage of protein, otherwise it is fine.

Labradoodle Approved
My (just turned) 2 year old labradoodle loves this food. We don’t have to make any adjustments to it (like add wet food or mix something else in), we just serve it as it comes. Never had any tummy trouble, itching or negative side effects. We believe our dog has a chicken allergy, which is the inital reason we chose this food (chicken free). We have feed our dog this same food, but the puppy version until she was one. No issues when we switched from the puppy version to dog version.

Great for the Dog but not picky eaters
I had really high hopes for this food. When we found out our dog was allergic to chicken we switched her to Taste of the Wild and for a while is ate it just fine. I could tell immediately an improvement in the health of her skin and coat. Her hot spot went away, her coat grew back thick and shiny, all in all I was excited to find a dog food that she didn’t have a negative reaction to, but unfortunately the hype didn’t last. Eventually she stopped eating it and would rather tip her bowl over and leave it in a pile on the floor. I can’t get her to eat it all all now unless I mix it with something more appealing. Sadly we will have to find something else for her to eat.
