Bought this for my elderly cat to prevent her from licking a hot spot on her tummy. After trying a cone of shame, an inflatable collar, several onesies, and a canvas cone...all of which she either escaped from OR didn't work for her...this one seems to be doing the trick! My only negative, preventing a 5 star review, is the drawstring placement. With the ears on top, thr little toggle is pressing right in her throat. And, if I turn it around, the ears get in the way when she tries to jump up. She's 16 so jumping is already a challenge, sometimes. So, I was forced to clip off the ears, position the pillow upside down so the draw string toggle is behind her ears and it seems to be working! Design flaws can be fixed and I hope these changes are made at the factory. Oh, and after two days, she hasn't escaped from it yet! Win, win!!
This should have had a velcro adjustment or something because it goes on like a sleeve, and then there is an adjuster you are supposed to tighten. It's the kind with a button that is supposed to release the cord and when you let go of the button the cord is supposed to stay in place. The issue is that the adjuster slides up and down the cord without the button having to be pushed. It is not only useless, but it is defective in this sense that it does not work as it should. If my cat had been able to wiggle out but the adjuster had held, then I would not be so upset, it would be down to a cat-specific issue, or my fault for not wanting to tighten it more. Since the product doesn't work properly there is no way to know if it would have worked, and sadly my boy will continue suffering from hot spots until I find something else.
Not really sure who designed this and thought it was a good idea. I got two of them for my two kittens to get fixed. They are only 4 pounds and I ordered the smallest size. You can pull the clasp to make it tighter on their necks, but it doesn’t stay. As soon as I put it on, all it took was one head shake and the collars were off. The clasp itself isn’t secure enough. It moves with a touch of a finger. Even if my kittens were full grown, I don’t think it would fit them. Thankfully Chewy’s customer service is fantastic and they refunded my money. Save your frustration and get something else.
My cat had a dental cleaning and mass removal that required an e-collar. I thought the cone of shame might be too rough on her, so I ordered this pillow instead. It worked well and stayed adjusted, but was extremely filthy due to her wet food. Threw it in the wash, then in the dryer as she needed to have it back on ASAP, and I believe that it may have warped the plastic stopper. After that, I caught her with it off multiple times as it was unable to stay tight around her neck, which led to a chase around the house to place it back on. I don't think the ear part of the collar was necessary either and would flop down throughout the day.
I got this because my new kitten has a spot on her back legs that has no fur, so I wanted to keep her from licking it, but when I got it and put it on her she could easily pull her head out and the thing that tightens it can easily loosen just my sitting there. Not worth the money spent at all.
My little baby got surgery in January and this was a life saver. She popped her inflatable version of this, the cone was absolutely dreadful for her, and she just collapsed in the surgery onesie. She LOVED THIS ONE SO MUCH !!
I bought this for one of my cats and purchased the correct size based on the description/recommendation. He is a big 14 lb cat and he had a habit of going through a little cat door where my other cat eats and then eating all of the food for himself, I wanted a way to prevent him from getting in so I purchased this. Although the "ears" of this pillow ring are cute, within a few minutes they were facing down to the floor instead of upright so I feel this product would've been better as just a donut. There were a couple times my cat was able to get this off and I found out that it wasn't holding the adjustment, so over time with a little bit of pushing and shoving, he could get right out of it again. As much as I liked the idea, I wouldn't recommend this product as it failed to do what it is supposed to.
My male kitten had this off in a flash the first time trying it before surgery day. Each time he tolerated it a bit longer but never made it longer than 2 hours, which was a problem. The cord holder didn't hold the cord tight enough which made it easy to loosen with a small amount of pressure.
Cat needed a protective collar/cone after surgery and I wanted something kinder and gentler but this was very large and awkward for 11 pound cat. He slept a bit in it, like a comfortable pillow, but could not walk in it. I thought smaller would be kitten size. The traditional cone seemed uncomfortable to him but this was way too clumsy. It may come in handy for a future pet.
The item does appear to be well constructed. My cat actually used it as a pillow and seemed to like it. She hates cones, so I was surprised she found it comfortable. The problem is that the item is very easy for cats to remove. Even when I tightened the drawstring, it didn't stay tight. The clip intended to hold the drawstring in place moves easily, allowing animals to pull it back over their head.
