My older dog has a chicken allergy and eats this. We are thinking about a puppy, and it would have to eat the same so we don't risk our other dog breaking out. Can puppies eat it also, or is it just an adult dog food?
Answer by ChewyApr 27, 2020
This variety is not formulated to meet the nutritional needs of puppies. It is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for maintenance.

Is this a grain free kibble?
Answer by ChewySep 29, 2022
This recipe contains grains.

Are any of the ingredients in this dog food sourced from China or made in China?
Answer by ChewyNov 04, 2020
Pro Pac source all ingredients from US suppliers if ingredients are available, grown or produced in the US. All ingredients for their dry pet food are sourced from the US except for flaxseed which comes from Canada and lamb meal which comes from Australia or New Zealand. Pro Pac vitamin premixes are formulated, sourced and blended in the United States by a US company in a human grade facility. Certain subparts of the vitamin premixes are only available overseas. Their US supplier assures that they make every effort to source from reputable non-Chinese vendors. All these ingredients are thoroughly tested and undergo many quality checks to insure safety and that specifications are meet. They go through two testing points before being exported, again when they reach the US and twice more once they reach their supplier.

I was a little disappointed I ordered Propac lamb and rice and got a different brand without any notice I had to feed it to my dogs because that’s all I had so hopefully my next order I will get what I ordered

Beware of New Recipe

My dog is low energy and overweight. I’ve bought him this chow for almost 3 years per the vet’s recommendation and he’s done well. Eliminated his skin irritations that were food allergy related. I’ve cut down my dog’s chow serving to once a day to help with weight issues. Well, the Pro PAC company has changed their recipe this year due to a recall. About a week ago, I finally ran out of the old chow recipe and started my pup on the new one (new bags). Every night for the last 4 nights, my dog is pacing my room at bedtime, panting and staring at walls. I mentioned earlier that my dog is low energy…he LOVES sleeping and he loves bedtime in his dog bed. The fact that he’s now acting restless and strange during his typical bedtime hours, really concerns me. The only thing that has changed in his life is this chow (the new recipe he started on a week ago). And the fact that he’s behaving this way only at night and his serving comes to him in the evening, I suspect this new recipe is the culprit. I’m very disappointed that the recipe and kibble has changed so much. We were customers of Pro PAC for years but as of tomorrow, we are no longer customers. I will be looking for a better chow option ASAP.

Beware New Recipe HAS CHICKEN

The new look, the new bag has changed the recipe quite a bit. It now has chicken fat, which is a huge step down from the original recipe, especially for those of us who were buying it for pets with a poultry allergy. Beware of this new bag, the old stuff has been discontinued.

Bad changes

I have bought this dog food for years now. They said the packaging is all that changed. This is wrong. I opened the bag and the kibble is huge. I have petite dogs. They are having trouble eating it. Also since this bag They have been eating more grass so I think the healthy formula has changed too. Im very disappointed with the changes and lack of notice

Formula is changing

We’ve fed this food for years - I have one dog that is allergic to beef, chicken (including the fat), corn, wheat, and soy. Another sensitive to potatoes and neither likes fish much. Finding a budget friendly food that meets all these needs is tough. Midwestern is changing the formula of this food to contain beef starting in September, but it’s not well publicized. I stumbled upon it researching other company issues, including recent recalls and a letter from the FDA for not making changes as promised. The letter, paired with the formula switch, was the last straw. Buyer beware, because something is not on the up and up with this manufacturer as of late.

New bag = very poor new recipe!!

I just opened one of the new bags and as you can see in my picture the recipe is completely different and full of fillers not to mention the size change of the kibble…much bigger pieces. I understand they’ve had troubles in the past with recalls but to change the recipe is not smart, once the old bags with the better recipe run out they’re loosing me as a customer and I’m sure many others.

Size is bigger

Still seems to be the same food but tge kibble size is so much bigger and my small dog won't eat it now. So now I will have to find a new food. This is upsetting because I have used this over 10 years
