Ursodiol (Generic) Capsules, 300-mg, 60 capsules

This is an oral capsule that is used to treat diseases of the liver and gallbladder when used as directed by your veterinarian. It may also be used to help remove gallstones that contain cholesterol.

• Can reduce the absorption of cholesterol and increase the breakdown of cholesterol

Give Ursodiol only as directed by your veterinarian. Capsules should be given by mouth preferably with food. If you do not understand how to give Ursodiol properly, always consult with your veterinarian.

Ursodiol works by improving the flow of bile into and out of the gallbladder and into the intestine. This prevents bile from building up. If bile builds up, it can be potentially toxic. This medication can also help decrease cholesterol in the bile by reducing production of it in the liver. Ursodiol can also reduce the amount of cholesterol absorbed from food and increases its breakdown which can be especially helpful in removing gallstones that are made if cholesterol.

It can take weeks to months of using Ursodiol in your pet to see improvement in clinical symptoms and lab work.
