This is very important for dogs with elevated liver enzymes. There is only one med Rosy is prescribed that Chewy does not carry, and the vendor persists in mailing it in padded envelopes so the packages arrive squashed flat. It makes me love Chewy even more, because I don’t have to tell you to box my meds. Everything is boxed when it comes from Chewy. This little jar of Denamarin came in a box, with lots of paper padding. It sad how’s that somebody at Chewy cares.

My Vet recently told me to give this to my pup to see if it would lower her elevated ALP score. I can’t speak to that yet but I wanted to say that she eats it whole. No problems there. I give it to her an hour before breakfast. Will report back in once she is retested. Maybe the product gets its fifth star then.

These pills are LARGE and supposed to be given on an empty stomach, which makes them very difficult to give. After only two days of having to force them down my dog's throat, I gave up. There's no way the manufacturer thought this through or even has dogs of their own. They're supposedly enteric coated, which means they shouldn't be chewed or broken up in any way, meaning the only way to give them is through force unless somehow you have a dog that will swallow anything.

I fully realize Denamarin is the standard of care for dogs with elevated liver enzymes, and if pet owners can make it work for their dog, I'd definitely stick with it. But for my dog, since it's supposed to be given on an empty stomach, I had to cram a large pill down my senior boy's throat every morning, as he refused to eat the chewable version. Getting the pill down him got progressively more difficult, it got to the point where it was just a huge battle we both dreaded. Also, about half the time I got the pill into him, he'd vomit within a half an hour. It clearly was making him nauseated, as he started refusing his food as well. So I finally quit giving it to him and switched to a liver supplement without SAM-e, which can be given in a pill pocket with food. I'm guessing it's not as effective, but the Denamarin just wasn't going to work for him.

I purchased this for my senior dog after reading up on heartworms and high ALP. My senior girl was diagnosed heartworm positive and I’m doing the slow kill method since she’s 13.5 years old and was paralyzed a year ago from IVDD. The treatment would be too hard for her. I gave her these pills for 4 days and she vomited the next morning every single day. I discontinued them. Important to note that they go bad after 30 days once you open it too. It didn’t work for us but hopefully for others!

My dog Grace is 15 yrs old and is a German Shepherd mix. In the past year she has had some joint issues and was prescribed Carprofen. This medicine causes liver problems so our vet wants her to take Denanarin to help with her liver. I gave it 4 stars because it is expensive (around $75).

My order arrived quickly, as always with Chewy, thank you! I purchased Denamarin for my dog, and while the product seems good, she isn’t a big fan of the pill’s taste. It definitely takes a little creativity to get her to take it! I’ve found that wrapping it in a small bit of sweet potato works best, especially since the directions say it should be given on an empty stomach unless otherwise advised by a vet. Overall, I appreciate the fast delivery and the clear product information.
