Important Information

Fleas rise to the top of your pet's coat as they die, so consider it a triumph if you start seeing more fleas at first, after treating your pet. If you’re still seeing fleas after application, it may be because your pet has picked up new fleas from the environment, which may include other pets, surfaces and outdoor areas. It may take up to 30 days to break the entire flea life cycle. Additionally, you should also treat sources of new fleas (i.e., carpet, yard, etc.) to ensure complete flea control.

Can you list the types of ticks this controls?

Some products that are safe for dogs are NOT safe for use around cats. I have 2 dogs and 1 cat is it safe to use on the dogs with a cat in the house?

Answer by ChewyJun 22, 2020
Due to their unique physiology and inability to metabolize the permethrin in Vectra 3D® for Dogs, this product must not be used on cats. As a precaution, when using this product in households with both dogs and cats, please keep the dog(s) that have been treated with a Vectra 3D® product separated from cats until the product has completely dried. Once dry, cats and dogs may again interact freely. Average drying time for Vectra 3D is 6-8 hours however drying times can vary. To ensure that the product is completely dry, you may run a facial tissue along the application site. When there is no evidence of moisture on the tissue, the product is dry.

Do I treat my dog with 3 doses right away, or use one dose a month?

Answer by ChewyMay 06, 2020

Vectra liquid it's taking long to dry- up to 6-8 hours. We put it in the evening and our dog started itching hour later. We used lower dose than indicated on the pack since we were skeptical and our puppy is just 7.5 months old. He rolled on his back and was no way he will stay still without scratching. I was hopping is just temporary but in the next 48 hours his ears were red and itchy. We showered him and 4 days later he lost his appetite, got weak in legs and dizzy. This treatment is really dangerous at least for my GSP dog. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND IT. I better use a shampoo, wash him more often and treat the yard than use these Flea and Ticks treatments. It looks like we are poisoning our dogs. We had lost one of skin cancer and now we are worried our puppy may have long impact health issues because of this treatment. I regret I used it.

I’ve been putting this on my dog for 9 years and she’s NEVER had a tick. What you need yo know is that we go to a highly wooded dog park every single day almost religiously. We walk in the woods about an hour and she runs all over in trees and plants/weeds of all types. If she ever did get a tick I don’t think she’d hold still for me to pull it off. She won’t hold still even for me to put the product on her back. She keeps spinning around trying to see what I’m doing. To get around this I put a dollop of peanut butter in her dish. While she licks on the peanut butter I easily apply the product. She’s weird. If she ever got a tick I don’t know how I’d get her to hold still for two seconds while I remove it.

This product works well overall in preventing fleas. I did apply the product according to package directions. However, I noticed not long after application, my dogs fur became discolored. Within hours, that discoloration spread outward from the spine area down his ribs. He scratched quit a bit and it would seem the product does not agree with him. It works to prevent fleas but it's not something we can use anymore as it has some side effects for our boy.

Won’t Use Again

We've been using Simparica Trio for tick/flee/heartworm treatment on our two doodles and very pleased with results. My vet suggested we add Vetra3D once a month in addition to simparica because the ticks are so bad this year. My dogs have been visibly miserable ever since I applied it. Scratching 1’r biting at their backs and rolling around. I told the vet and was told to wash it off with Dawn dish washing detergent. I did not do that but it’s been five days and they are still so uncomfortable. I won’t use again.

This is all I feed my two Chihuahua mix girls. One of them is a Chiweenie. The Chiweenie is getting older and has some toothissues and has an appointment soon to have a dental exam cleaning and maybe pull a tooth. I bought her some wet dog food, thinking shewould like to eat that better. When I put the wet dog food down for her supper, she looked at me like I was crazy andwould not touch it. When I put this dry kibble in her bowl like I usually do, she devoured it. So if she needs something soft to eat, I’ll just wet this with water and let it get soft because it’s all she likes.

Vectra is a excellent product. I have a home that backs up to state game lands so we have all types of wildlife in our backyard, we have a fenced area for our two dogs and I have not found any ticks biting my dogs. Vectra repels them . I have had ticks on me from the yard but the dogs were free of them and never had Fleas either. Vectra works GREAT!!!
