1) How can VETMEDIN®-CA1 (pimobendan) help my dog?

VETMEDIN®-CA1 is conditionally approved to delay the onset of clinical signs of heart failure in dogs diagnosed with myxomatous mitral valve disease and evidence of an enlarged heart (known as Stage B2 heart disease).

2) How do VETMEDIN®-CA1 (pimobendan) Chewable Tablets work?

VETMEDIN®-CA1 has a unique dual mode of action, dilating the blood vessels carrying blood to and from the dog’s heart, reducing the load on the heart. It also increases the contraction of the heart muscle, without putting additional stress on the heart.

3) What is a conditional approval for animal drugs?

The FDA-CVM grants conditional approval for animal drugs to treat serious, life-threatening diseases for which there are no approved therapies available. Drug safety has been demonstrated and the drug is manufactured in accordance with full approval standards. 4) At what dose and how often should I give VETMEDIN®-CA1 (pimobendan) to my dog?

VETMEDIN®-CA1 should be administered per your veterinarian’s prescription specific to your dog.

5) How do I give VETMEDIN®-CA1 (pimobendan) to my dog?

VETMEDIN®-CA1 should be given to your dog in their mouth (orally) twice a day, about 12 hours apart. The tablets are scored so that a combination of whole or half tablets may be given to your dog. Because of differences in tablet sizes and dog sizes, the dose you are prescribed to give your dog in the morning may be the same or different from the evening dose. Please give VETMEDIN®-CA1 as directed by your veterinarian.

6) When should I give my dog VETMEDIN®-CA1(pimobendan)?

VETMEDIN®-CA1 should be given to your dog once a veterinarian has confirmed that it meets the criteria for Stage B2 preclinical myxomatous mitral valve disease. 7) What should I do if I miss a dose of VETMEDIN®-CA1 (pimobendan)?

If a dose of VETMEDIN®-CA1 is missed give the next scheduled dose at the normal time. There’s no need to give a higher dose.

8) What dosing options does VETMEDIN®-CA1 (pimobendan) come in?

VETMEDIN®-CA1 (pimobendan) is available as a beef-flavored, chewable tablet in 2 convenient dosing sizes (1.25 mg and 5 mg).

9) Can VETMEDIN®-CA1 (pimobendan) be used with all dogs?

VETMEDIN®-CA1 is conditionally approved for the delay of onset of clinical signs of heart failure in dogs with B2, pre-clinical (asymptomatic with murmur/abnormal heart sounds and evidence of increased heart size) myxomatous mitral valve disease. The safe use of VETMEDIN®-CA1 has not been evaluated in dogs younger than 6 months of age, dogs with congenital heart defects, dogs with diabetes mellitus or other serious metabolic diseases, dogs used for breeding, or pregnant or lactating dogs.

10) What are the side effects of VETMEDIN®-CA1 (pimobendan)?

The most common side effects seen in dogs with Stage B2 MMVD while taking VETMEDIN®-CA1 Chewable Tablets are cough, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy (lack of energy), and localized pain (such as in the neck or legs). If side effects occur, consult your veterinarian.
