Questions & Answers

Why do you use "meal" instead of straight chicken, lamb etc? I've read to not use products that say meal for the main ingredient. Thank you. I've been feeding Victor Lamb to my Rott for about 4 months now.
Answer by Chewy • Dec 25, 2018
Victor uses lamb meal in this dog food because it is a quality source of high protein. Lamb meal is the dry rendered part from lamb tissues, specially prepared for feeding purposes by tanking under live steam or dry rendering. Though the meat has been cooked, dried, and ground, it is still meat, and has not had any blood, hair, hoof, horn, hide trimmings, manure, stomach or rumen contents added to it.

I'm planning of getting the fish or lamb and brown rice. What other ingredients are included. Are there peas, potatoes or corn in it? Would I have to add green beans to it?
Answer by Chewy • Apr 04, 2019
This formula provides a nutritionally balanced meal and does not contain peas, potatoes, or corn. For a full list of ingredients, click the "Nutritional Info" tab just above the description.

Does this dog food contain Chicken or chicken products? My dog is allergic to chicken and that is why I am asking.
Answer by Chewy • Jun 21, 2018
This recipe contains chicken fat.

What is blood meal? Why is it used in this food?
Answer by Chewy • Sep 18, 2019
Blood meal is a high protein, low ash, low fat ingredient that provides a strategic source of nutrients and amino acids when used appropriately. Including blood meal in our products maintains protein levels and meets calcium requirements. It is sourced from human-grade meat processed in USDA-approved facilities.Their quality assurance team tests this product before it is accepted to ensure it meets their rigorous quality standards.

This one is the best of Victor

I buy almost all of the varieties of Victor. I have several show dogs. So I have tried most of Victor. The Lamb and Brown Rice is the go to for a dog that is a little underweight duller coat etc. I recently put my 11 year old, who had been on Beef and Brown rice, on the Lamb. To get a shiny coat is quite an accomplishment on an old dog. She is doing so much better. The Brown Rice is a good one as well. But, if you need or want the push, this is the go to. Now they say that both lamb and beef liver are the go to for iron. Perhaps its the iron of lamb that really brings up a compromised dog. While it is about $20.00 more for a bag, it is well worth keeping it on hand to help a dog that needs a lift. The nice thing about Victor is that you can change between the types without any stomach upset.

Great dog food... never disappointed

I fed this to my lab long ago and it really shined up her coat. I have been feeding this to my 3 dogs and while we have tried a good bit after certain brands disappearing off the shelves... I prefer to keep them on victor. Good food. Good price. No itching scratching.

Three very happy dogs

I have been using this food for over a half year and plan to continue. The consistency of the kibble has been good. all three of my dogs like to eat it and have show not skin conditions from it. I like that it also come in a 40lb bag. Auto ship has been great for this product as well.

Hassle free delivery

We just switched our two dogs over to adult dog food and the transition has been painless. I also am happy about the automatic delivery to help with keeping enough food on hand. Thank you Chewy for the great service.

My dogs love this

I switched to a lamb based dog food for allergies. My dogs love this so much. I have two cats as well and they seem to love it too, when a kibble rolls their way, they scramble to get it. It's a lot pricier than some of the other dry dog foods but my dogs really love this.

Dogs will not eat it

I use Victor brand in other flavors but neither of my dogs will eat this lamb. It does have a stronger smell than the other meats. I have tried adding can food but they refuse. I still use the beef flavor but had to purchase another brand of lamb and they love it.

Not for us

Tried this food for around 6 months to see if Olive would adjust to it, but unfortunately it just doesn't seem to be the right food for her. I chose Victor at the suggestion of her trainer (later found out that they sell Victor food exclusively), and Olive never took to it very well. She doesn't seem to enjoy the taste, and she requires waaaay more water throughout the day to keep her hydrated. Her stools are too dark/firm - although easy to clean up, she is often straining and her stools crumbly. We switched to Victor after trying Purina Pro Plan, and will now be trying Hill's as an alternative.

Great Food

My Newfoundland loves Victor, it was recommended by the breeder. His hair is so shiny on this food, no digestive troubles, and he loves it!

Chili is a picky eater

He will eat about half a bag then stop eating! Doesn't matter expensive or cheap.
