Feeding Instructions

To attract the greatest variety of birds you should have at least 2 - 3 different types of feeders to accommodate different types of seeds, and varying feeding habits:

Hopper Feeders and Tube Feeders (with large holes) are better for sunflower seed, safflower seed, peanuts and blended seeds.

Finch tube feeders (with small holes) are better for Nyjer seed and finch food.

Platform feeders will accommodate ground feeding birds (such as cardinals, juncos, doves, jays, and sparrows) and other wildlife.

Wagner's Always The First

Always The First

As an industry trailblazer, Wagner's has had many firsts. They were the first company over 80 years ago to sell a bird seed for year-round feeding. Before that, bird feeding was just a winter activity to give wild birds the energy they needed to survive the winter. They've also been the first to market black oil sunflower seed, regional blends, and deluxe and premium bird foods.

About Wagner's

As the oldest and largest privately owned wild bird food company in the USA, Wagner's has been helping bird enthusiasts attract wild birds to their backyards since 1894. With special blends of high-quality, fresh ingredients, their seed mixes have become time-tested favorites for all types of birds across America. They produce many different wild bird foods that are developed to give your feathered friends more of the seeds they love, making your feeders come alive with beautiful songbirds.

    Lots of waste

By Maxplanar on Apr 29, 2021

It seems the birds I have (SoCal) have no interest in the red seeds (red milo?) in this. We predominantly feed Finches, Titmouse, Grosbeaks, Munias, Jays, Towhees etc, and none of them want the red milo, so it just causes a mess. It's good value otherwise.

    Perfect for BIRDS

By Glenn on Apr 21, 2021

Unlike most of the "tricked up" seeds, this product actually discourages squirrels. I have found no other product that slows the squirrels down this much. Lack of sunflower seeds? Anyway, birds love it, it's priced right and fewer squirrels. WOW

The right food for the right bird.

By Sevoug on Apr 17, 2021

This is great food, but not for the small wild birds that I feed, they contain corn, large seeds and nuts cut in half, which they cannot eat and the food is wasted, so, I have to try another brand with smaller seeds and no corn and no nuts.

The birds give it 5 stars

By MkMc on Apr 18, 2021

I put the bags of seed on my front porch so I wouldn't have to carry them very far. I walked outside this afternoon and a dozen birds flew away from the bag -- they slit it open and were feeding themselves...

    Lots stays on the ground...

    By Hills006 on Apr 16, 2021

...until you clean it up. This blend contains too much milo, filler and corn. The birds flock to my yard, but continually leave a lot uneaten. I have much better luck with other Wagner's products.

    Please, No Red Milo

By IrritatedInMinnesota on Jan 9, 2021

Tip to beginning birders: Birds don't like red milo seed. I've never seen any bird eat it. If you buy it in a seed mix, it will litter the ground where you feed birds. It's the fool's gold of bird seed. And this seed mix has a large proportion of it. I got stuck with the stuff because my usual cheap bird seed was backordered. So I got this, and knew the moment it arrived that I had made a mistake. Unless you have very different birds, avoid this like the weed seed that it is.

    :^) Love this

By Sebastian on Dec 2, 2020

Bought a bag to sprinkle onto a wooden board on my fire escape, nothing fancy, I just like birds. To my surprise, 3 blue jays, 2 cardinals, and a plethora of doves and sparrows I didn’t know lived in my area came out, and they do every time I pour a cup of birdseed onto the board. Great product!
