The best way to transition onto a new food is to gradually introduce the food by mixing it with the old diet. This is particularly important when the new food is much tastier than the old, as is the case with Wellness. Mixing the food will allow the dog to acclimate to the new taste and not overindulge on the new food
When food transition is not an option, there are a few ways to ensure a good transition:
-
Feed multiple, smaller volume meals. This will decrease the likelihood of over-consumption and provide for a more consistent, firm stool. This is an especially good option for puppies and senior dogs.
-
Add clean warm water to the food to help soften it.
-
Add a digestive aid such a boiled brown rice or sugar-free canned pumpkin

charmin ultra soft is thicker
By newlabmama on May 7, 2022
So thin and so uncomfortable for our new pup. We thought we were messing up our crate training and then realized that this crate mat was just utterly useless. Would not recommend.

Waste of time
By Landon on Apr 6, 2019
Expensive and poorly made. Bag was 90% powder. I attempted to salvage the non powdery stuff and have my dogs try it. They ate it, but they didnt finish it. First time ive given them a new food they didn't finish. Should have listened to the other bad reviews. Thank god chewy took care of it.

Easiest preparation of raw food
By Niko on Sep 27, 2018
This product makes preparation of raw food for our dogs very easy. Pricewise it's also a pretty good value compared to other freeze or air-dried raw foods. The dogs seem to like the flavor. Our dog Mack has pancreatitis so he gets homemade super low-fat food. I mix up some of the Truefood for our other dog Nisse's meal, and use some as a tasty topper for Mack's food. The Lamb and Salmon flavors are appropriate for low-fat diets. I took off one star because the Trufoods tend to be on the dusty side, with very few "chunks", unlike the photo on the package. The food consistency, when rehydrated, is more like mashed potatoes.

My dogs love it!
By LisaMarie on Oct 3, 2018
Have a Cavalier KC, Pekingese and Chihuahua. They can be fussy eaters, but all enjoy it. Very easy to prepare. Just start your teapot with water, once hot then add to food. Stir and wait 5-10 minutes. Dogs get antsy waiting for it to hydrate and cool down, but if you keep everyone busy then the time goes by quickly. Glad we tried it. Also, the dogs transitioned very well without upset tummies!

Did not like this product
By LunasMom on Aug 19, 2018
Product had a weird smell, one customer said chicken broth, I felt that too. It took a lot longer than 5 minutes to turn. It was like soup for 10 - 15 minutes. I just followed the instructions; which looked like 1 cup to 1 cup of water. I ended up waiting almost 30 minutes before feeding. My Luna eats anything, but she didn't get excited about it like the refrigerated food.

Unsure about it
By CindyE on Jul 23, 2018
Although my 2 little dogs love this lamb variety, they now have a bowel movement 3-4 times a day instead of twice. Sweet potato is the second ingredient which could be the case but with the turkey they do not experience the same condition.

Great food will continue to buy!
By cindyandjc on Jul 10, 2018
My dog loves Trufood. I have my dog on Wellness Core and I supplement trufood fresh as a topping. I use a tablespoon add a little filtered water and it makes a gravy base and she loves it.

Bowl is licked clean!
By LegenDog on Apr 5, 2018
I have a picky Labrador (weird, right?) with a sensitive stomach. He was bored of all of the other foods he tried and wouldn’t finish his meals. That meant that the remaining uneaten food would sit in his bowl for hours after it was served, which is a big no-no for raw food. Enter Wellness Trufood Raw Freeze Dried food. With good ingredients and a nice variety of flavors, I figured I’d give this food a try. My dog finally gets excited about meal time with this food! It takes 5 minutes to absorb water that you mix into it - and it’s the longest 5 minutes of his day because of the anticipation of the meal (it’s okay though, I utilize this opportunity to do a quick training session since it is during this time that I have his complete attention and focus). I can mix in other food or anything that I need him to eat (prescription or otherwise non-appealing to the tastebuds) and he will still finish everything and lick the bowl clean. This is an easy way to keep up with a raw diet even while traveling, since all you need is water and a stirring utensil. I will also add that since he has been eating this food, my dog’s coat has been extremely shiny, soft, and best of all, he barely sheds during the times of the year when dogs typically shed heavily. People always comment on how healthy and beautiful his coat looks and I attribute this to his raw food from Wellness. … more
