What exactly does the Wisdom PREMIUM test provide that the Wisdom Essential test does not?
Answer by ChewySep 11, 2020
The difference in the testing is the mutations the test screens for. The Premium test screens for over 180 genetic health conditions while the Essential screens for 25.

Does it show what percentage of breed the dog has
Answer by ChewyDec 15, 2020
The results will show the breeds present in your dog (down to 1%), as well as trace their family tree back three generations.

My dogs are sisters from same litter. They share everything. Is it ok to just do one dna test since they're probably going to be identical?
Answer by ChewyFeb 17, 2021
In addition to ancestry and genetic predisposition for various traits, this kit also tests for potential health risks for each individual pup's DNA.

after this DNA Test, Can I register my dog and obtain Papers on her?
Answer by ChewyNov 16, 2020
The Wisdom Panel Dog DNA Test Kit only test what breed your dog is, no additional documentation is provided. The AKC does not accept genetic breed testing as proof for registry at this time.

Wisdom Panel Premium DNA test for dogs

Excellent - results were easy to understand and gave us insight to our mixed breed rescue. We had adopted her in April and had no idea of her breed/s and what to expect of her behavior or temperament. The added medical information was very helpful as we don't have to worry about any inherited medical issues. I would recommend this panel for any dog owner. The DNA collection was probably the hardest part since our dog is still a puppy and didn't like the swab in her mouth.

Bad communication customer service

I have purchased 7 Total of these Wisdom Panel kits. I have info back on the sire and dam and for more COI info to see if it matched my international registry. Not one email or phone call or email or text back. Purchased 7 of these kits and they don’t consider me a good customer?

A "DNA" Joke

Looking at our rescue he looks like a terrier or collie of some sort. Since he's a rescue we wanted to know a little bit more about our dog. We purchased the Wisdom Panel Breed ID & Health Condition kit and the results are in a nut shell - a joke. Its says he's 30% chihuahua and 20% poodle and his weight range should be between 11-18 pounds. If I were to follow that guide/suggestion I would starve him to death. He should weigh 23-27lbs per the vet. Stay away from this 'kit'. Its expensive and a waste since they obviously just made up data for my pet.

Very Confused

First of all, they divided up which breeds my dog is made up of, into 3 categories: Companion, Terrier, and Sporting. I'm not sure what that means. Anyhow, under Companion, it told me my terrier is made of 18% PUG. Under that, Pomeranian, Poodle, Maltese and other outrageous breeds that my dog looks and acts nothing like. My vet had assumed he was a mix of a Norfolk and Norwich terrier and those make perfect sense because my dog resembles those very much. I paid well over $100 for this and was so excited, but alas, I do not trust these results at all.

One surprise!

Did tests on both our dogs… May’s outcome made sense. Australian Healer and border collie plus bits of other herding type breeds. She had been shuffled around quite a-bit before I found her. Tip was a bit surprising and explains some of his behaviors - Australian Healer and English Springer Spaniel and bits of other breeds. - he was supposed to be full Healer - he was purchased from Amish puppy sellers at the stockyards by a friend and ended up coming to our farm. He is long legged, has button ears, a soft curly guard coat, always has his nose to the ground and is quite the hunter. Herding…. not so much. I asked the vet how he could be so tall coming from two shorter legged breeds. He smiled and said, “ahhh the beauty of genetics” Very worthwhile. Gives you insight on behaviors your dog might be exhibiting - helps you understand what makes them tick - helps with training too. when you mix breeds you never know which breed traits will dominate. Clear instructions. Easy mailing. Good communication. Useful information. Happy with product.

So far, so good

I have only just recently sent in my dogs dna sample. However I am impressed already because they sent me an email saying they had received my sample and would start the process. I am waiting patiently for the results.

Mixed up results

You pay a lot of money for this DNA test only to have them mix up your results and then not even own up to it. They claim our dog is 70 pct pit bull and 30 pct Rottweiler. Our dog looks nothing like either we were told she was a hound and looks exactly like a hound. Personally I would think they should have sent us another kit. We are going to submit another kit through embark.
