It is hard to get aspen shavings here before everyone buys it all up. Glad to know you carry it. Our hognoses love this stuff.

It says it's good for blue tongue skinks but the chips are way too small and will stick to the moisture in your skinks eyes and get in and severely irritate them. Not good at all for blue tongue skinks

  • Best Sand boa substrates

Wiggles, my Kenyan sand boa loves this stuff. She burrows and it doesn't even need to be mixed with sand. Very easy to clean up her droppings too! Plus this is the cheapest and beat deal I've found anywhere!

  • So fresh and so clean!

Much cleaner and healthier than sand. Low dust, easy to clean up messes, and one bag covered much more than expected! Solomon, our African sand boa, took to it right away.

  • Good, loose substrate for burrowers

    By on

The aspen was pretty much what I expected. It works especially well for reptile species that like to burrow, like sand boas. My one issue is that the chips don't hold burrow shape in the same way that aspen shavings would, so if you're looking for that then go for shavings. Otherwise, these aspen chips are a good alternative to sand which can cause impaction.
