Compounding is a way for licensed pharmacists to create a customized medication that meets your pets specific needs. Compounding pharmacists mix or change one or more FDA-approved medications to prepare a special medication for your pet. For example, if a medication is only available in pill form, the pharmacist might create it in liquid, gel, or capsule form.
Your pet may have a specific health need that cannot be addressed by an FDA-approved drug. For example:
Always talk with your veterinarian about any concerns you have about your pets health so they can prescribe a treatment for your pets unique needs.

My little girl has been on this medication for many years. It works well for her. I don't like that I can't get the liquid form without the Almond Oil. So I dump out most of the oil. I leave some so the medication gets mixed up. I haven't seen my girl have a seizure in a while, so it must be working.
Tried this for our cat that has seizures and when given to her she starts to salivate/drool worse than a Saint Bernard! It’s almost as if she is foaming at the mouth and drool gets all over the place. Based off that it was really hard to tell if the medication was all going down, plus it seems like it must taste terrible. Researched a bit online after this happened and read some other similar accounts with the liquid form of this med causing this adverse reaction in cats. We have had luck giving her this med in the pill form - that’s going fine, no drooling as long as she doesn’t accidentally bite and break the pill capsule.
I have a problem with an ill fitting cap on the bottle. It was very hard to open - sometimes as long as 3 minutes & I'd have to reshake the contents.
This is an oily/grainy consistency and does NOT smell like the flavor at all. Cat could not stand it and so I cannot use it. Luckily a nearby compounding pharmacy was able to make a transdermal gel which works like a charm. Sorry Chewy, this one was a fail.
Excellent service...Chewy pharmacy is highly recommended by my vet. I needed compounded liquid Zonisamide for my dog who has a seizure issue. I was unable to give her the capsules no matter how I disguised them & forcing them down her throat was too traumatic for both of us. I give her the beef flavored by mouth in a syringe & it has been so much easier. thank you Chewy Pharmacists!!!
The mixture of this works great for my Joey. No more seizures. Thank you!
Great value. My poor Shihtzu suffers from seizures and has been on zonisamide which I would get from a local compounding pharmacy. For what I pay for 1 month, Chewy is providing me 3 months. Thanks
Zonisamide has worked wonders for my dog for months & since he is only 6 1/2lbs it can be hard to find pills at the right dosage, so this liquid makes things so much easier to adjust the amount given. Zonisamide is a great first choice for when your dog starts having seizures. Eventually, you may have to add a second drug or switch to another, but since it generally has so few side effects it can be the ideal first line of defense.
