This is a crazy good product for my elder bird. He suffers from most likely mites. His skin is sensitive too. Unless it is hotspots related to mites. the Zymox Avian Care Topical Skin Spray, 2-fl oz bottle however has aloe to soothe and calm flare ups. You might not think it is worth the expense. That little bottle goes a long way. I suggest you try it first before rejecting it outright..

Use with Caution and Sparingly!!

I have had both positive and negative results from using this product. Please note that I have only used this product on Parakeets/Budgerigars. Positive: FEATHER CYST MAINTENANCE It helped maintain and reduce feather cysts on my 7 year old parakeet's rump. It did not cure them, but her health significantly improved and her life was extended from epsom salt baths and the use of this spray. Negative: DEATH Most recently I sprayed two of my 5 year old parakeets who were molting. After two days of diarrhea and vomiting they passed away. I must have either sprayed too much and, because they actively cleaned their feathers whereas the former bird did not, they ingested it - and far more than they should have. Use this sparingly! Make sure you are at a good distance from the bird when spraying! This product is NOT a cure-all or a prescription medication, but can alleviate more serious skin and feather issues. I recommend this for older birds and others that don't preene themselves often or at all. If there is a likelihood that they may ingest the spray, I discourage using it. The risk is too high for the potential gain.

I applied it 3 times and now he hates all spray bottles and reacts very upset as soon as I come up with a sprayer. I changed back to water with aloe vera and he regained trust. The good thing is that it comes in a little bottle, so it's not a big loss.

My cockatiel plucked out her feathers after she lost her partner. Everything under her wings and part of her back was "bald", and it became inflamed and obviously painful. This spray really works! I just used a little and made sure it didn't get on the feathers she still has. I used it for two weeks as directed. Now some feathers are finally starting to grow back. She is definitely much more comfortable things to Zymox. I highly recommend it.

I was looking for an easy product to help an itchy bird with a molt. I should have read the instructions more carefully. This is meant to be sprayed in the skin UNDER the feathers and says not to spray directly on feathers. May not seen like a big deal but it was an extra step and not what I was looking for. Not. Impressed.

I didn’t realize you had to put this on your finger and rub it on the Bird and you could not spray it. My 37 year old inherited parrot is not that trusting And I have been his person for about four years now. Therefore it is hard for me to recommend or not recommend as I haven’t been able to use it and it may work beautifully for those of you who can pet your birds.
