Is Acana WSAVA criteria?

Answer by ChewyJul 18, 2022
WSAVA does not approve pet food but rather provides guidelines or recommendations for best practices. Here are the ways ACANA has implemented WSAVA's recommendations for best practices. Champion Pet foods have been working with veterinary specialists for over a decade and hired a full-time animal nutritionist in 2011, as well as an in-house veterinarian in 2019. Their highly educated and talented team of Research & Innovation scientists lead the development and research of their ACANA and ORIJEN pet foods. They conduct adult maintenance feeding trials on numerous ORIJEN and ACANA recipes. All their recipes are formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by AAFCO. They test every lot number for protein, ash, fat, fiber, moisture, calcium, and phosphorus. Additionally, each diet completes ongoing nutritional analysis conducted by an independent research laboratory to ensure all AAFCO requirements are met throughout the shelf life of the product.

After multiple episodes of throwing up between my two cats, I made the switch from a cheaper brand to Acana and we haven't had ANY messes (Multiple vet visits couldn't figure out what was wrong). Previously, the cheaper brand food would be left untouched for days, but this brand has them SPRINTING towards our auto feeder. My two girls love eating this I will continue to buy until they decide they're over it.

My cat had been eating this food for 4 years and loved it. She is a picky eater. But the last bag, she wouldn't touch. I called Chewy to ask if they changed the formula recently and yes, they did. Thanks for telling me, and I guess my kitty isn't crazy. Chewy also refunded me money. Thanks Chewy!

Legumes = Throw Up

I got this to increase the nutritional profile of the food I give my kitties, but after I added it, my cats started throwing up everywhere frequently.

Our cat is 6 1/2 years old. Before she adopted us she was 'feral', or at least living in and among the mangrove and hardwood trees behind our house. We tried a number of dry foods, from as many manufacturers, but she was vomiting at least once every week, until we tried Acana. The ingredients are more like what she'd been eating outside (other things which live outside), and in a small kibble that she seems more comfortable crunching. It's a little more expensive than the others, but (a) it's not being thrown-up and wasted, and (b) she's getting all the nutrients and protein she needs to stay healthy, and (c) she likes it! What more could you want for your fur-baby's food?

I wanted to switch to a more healthy food for my cats but they refuse to eat it. When they would hear the food come from the machine you better not be in the way but now, one barely acknowledges and the other may have a few bits and the rest sits in the dish. Not blaming the food but I’ll have to buy the food they’re used to.
