Questions & Answers

9 Customer Questions

Our cat is three, but has lost a great teeth including two incisors. Is this food hard to chew, and how big are the pieces?

Answer by ChewyApr 01, 2023
Our ACANA Senior Entrée recipe is triangle shaped with an approximate diameter of 9mm. As every cat is unique, so is what kibble shape and size will work best for them.

How long does the Acana Senior dry cat food last after bag is opened?

Answer by ChewyNov 24, 2022
An unopened bag of food will last until the expiration date stamped on the bag. Ideally, dry food and treats should be consumed within 6-8 weeks of opening the bag. Exposure to air, light, hot temperatures and humidity speeds up the rate at which foods degrade. To limit these effects, keep dry foods in their original packaging and store in a cool, dry location.

I have 3 cats, all seniors. I did a test with 2 different dry foods. (I give my cat both wet and dry but mostly wet). I gave my 3 cats, 2 bowls each with some of each. I put the ACANA in paper bowl, so I could tell which is which. Purina Beyond Grain-Free Natural Simply Wild Caught Whitefish & Cage Free Egg Recipe Dry Cat food. ACANA Senior Entree Chicken & Turkey Dry Cat Food. Either they were all in the mood for poultry, or they all liked the ACANA better. Both have good ingredients so I am keeping both on my FAVs. One is much cheaper, so when finances are an issue I have a cheaper but good quality to switch too. Don't get me wrong, my 2 boy cats ate the Purina Beyond too, but they finished up the ACANA.

My 5 Cats LOVE this food! But Too Expensive

My cats loved this dry food more than any other kind I have tried on them. I have 5 cats indoor-only ranging from 13 yrs to 4 yrs old (13, 10, 9, 4 and 4). I have never seen them enjoying dry food so much. But I am a senior o social security. As hard as I try to upgrade my cat's food, especially for the senior ones, I simply could not afford to keep buying this brand. I would highly recommend it except for the price.

My furbaby has always had a sensitive stomach, she's 16 and has been vomiting with every food I've ever given her, it doesnt matter how healthy the brand or the vet say it is. I recently decided to try this a couple months ago and as soon as I put her in front of the bowl, she went for it, which is not common for her. The best part though... she hasn't vomited at all since the change! She is happier and healthier than she's ever been!

Callie is 14 so she's picky. She loves the Acana dry food for senior pets.

For us , the fact that she went right to the dry morsals. She gets about 1/4 cup a day and she loves it, nibbling and enjoying each bite.

I'm joining the other reviewers whose cats threw up after eating this. I'm very careful about slowly introducing new food to my senior cats. One of my cats has an iron stomach. She can and will eat anything, and never throws up. After initially eating this, mixed with her familiar food, she threw up and now she won't touch it. Same with my other senior cat. I can't imagine what makes this food so bad for so many cats, but it scared me enough to not want to feed it ever again.

I recently discovered that Acana dry food is giving my cat urinary crystals. I rotate the food brands. Any time I give my cat the Acana, his urine is bloody. I had to take him to 2 veterinarians and he had crystals. Crystals have subsided since I stopped giving him Acana. To the company....is there one ingredient that could be causing painful crystals in kitties?
