My dogs like it very much. The ingredients are different, (its all fish) and I had to take my time to adjust my dogs to the new food. They had too much to start and ended up with the runs, but with a slow and steady integration it is working out well. Definitely will stick with this food!
My dog with sensitive skin had been eating this food for around 2 years with no issues. Then out of nowhere he started having awful diarrhea. I narrowed it down to this food that was causing it. It seems that the bottom food in the bags goes bad quickly or there is some sort of quality issue overall. The last bag he started having bloody diarrhea up until I transitioned him to a new brand of food. I have no plans of buying Acana ever again in the future.
My Dog was eating lots of grass while on this, so I tried chicken instead which was a worse story. Loose stools and can’t get her weight down. Orijen puppy was better.
I tried this dog food because of how good the ingredients look on the package (first 5 ingredients must be protein). One of my 2 dogs are not picky eater at all but it took him a while to get used to this food. And if he ever throws up, even a few hours after eating, you will see in his vomit that the kibbles remains exactly the same as in the bag! not the first time that he threw up, but definitely the 1st time we saw kibbles undigested like that in this vomit. I would not suggest this for more senior dogs. The packaging is ridiculous too. It is not resealable, so once you open the massive package, you have to have enough boxes to put all the food in.
It's hard to find a poultry-free grain inclusive kibble. This formula checks both boxes, and my dogs do fantastic on it. The macro balance is great, and I can rotate between this and the Red Meat formula. For those who complain about the smell, think like a dog not a human 😂
We decided to try something new for our Golden Retriever and I've heard nothing but good reviews about Acana for a long time. About a month into feeding it, our dog with an iron stomach got gastroenteritis for the first time in the seven years he's been in our home. After a costly vet visit, we treated the episode, but we still didn't make the connection that it could be the food until it happened again - the second time with us being even more cautious about what was entering and exiting our pup, eliminating variables one by one. Suffice to say, it's the food. I think the food looks good on paper but it is just too rich or something isn't sitting right for our boy, after reading more reviews online it seems diarrhea can happen a lot with Acana foods. Definitely disappointed but oh well, I guess we will go back to what we were feeding before.
Our dogs didn't love love this food at first, but with a little topper, it has become a huge favorite. Our kids will eat it without the topper now. We have been searching for a good non-chicken and non-egg food that our fur babies will love and this seems to be the winner (boy, it has been a crazy, long search). It is way less stinky and fishy than the Orijen one. I also keep it in a semi-air tight container so it doesn't stink the place up.
Iris loves this dry food! The kibble is just the right size for a medium sized dog, and while we are only on our first week on it, we have no upset stomachs or loose poops! It is on the more expensive side
Have ordered from Chewy for many years, they have always had the items I need at a fair price.Shipping is fast and Customer service excellent.Highly recommended!
My two dogs are not picky eaters (lab and lab mix) and they would not touch this food. I didn't want to waste the food though so I had to add in a packet of wet food in order for them to eat it. The scent of the food is also an extremely strong fish smell that is off-putting. I will not be purchasing this brand again, which is disappointing because it had so many good reviews.
