How long can you refrigerate open can of the larger size?

Answer by ChewyDec 31, 2018
Opened cans of food should be stored in the fridge to retain moisture, minimize exposure to air and reduce transfer of odors to other food. The best way to store opened cans of cat or dog food is to use a plastic pet food lid that fits the top of the can to prevent moisture loss and transfer of odors. If a plastic lid is not available, plastic wrap also provides a very good moisture, air and odor barrier. Zip-to-close bags provide good moisture barriers but do not provide good oxygen and odor barriers. Opened cans should be stored in the fridge, at temperatures between 40-45°F, for a maximum of 5-7 days. Any cat or dog food remaining after that time should be thrown out.

What is the dry matter phosphorus and sodium?

Answer by ChewyMar 05, 2025
Almo provides nutritional content as a guaranteed analysis, not on a dry matter basis. However, you can find formulas online to estimate the nutrient content on a dry matter basis using the guaranteed analysis info (min. Phosphorus) provided.

Texture

My cats love the broth and the shreds. They seem to prefer it to pate.

my cats didn't eat

The food is of good quality, but my cats did not eat it. Before that I took the fish flavor, they ate it with pleasure. I gave the whole box to charity

The best I've found

I have 3 cats. All with health issues boiling down to food. All with dye allergies. One with an allergy to tuna, and something else that makes him vomit most foods (vet won't be bothered to find out), and mild pika. Another with sensitivity to most foods causing vomiting, likely from a horrible case of worms when I first found her. Another prone to bladder stones. So between the three, finding a food that works for all of them was a very difficult challenge. This met all of their standards, they'll all eat it, and it exacerbated none of their sensitivities. They also have two additional foods to help fill out their nutritional needs fully, but this really helps fill in what their other foods couldn't, and making it all easier on their stomachs.
