Amlodipine blocks calcium channels that control arterial muscle contraction. This causes relaxation of the arterial walls which results in dilation of the arteries and helps to decrease blood pressure into normal range when it is elevated.
Amlodipine can help to lower your pets blood pressure quickly and he/she should start to feel better. If a dose is missed, the blood pressure will increase again so it is important to give medication continually.
My cat has to take a quarter tab of these per day... Granted that's easy to hide in her food for the most part, but lately she's not having it... Doesn't matter how well I disguise it she won't take it and she hates pill pockets I even put it in her favorite treat and she denied her favorite treat.... That and how hard to cut they are I had to use a razor blade and push down on it when I had it in a bowl so it didn't fly all over the place and then I had to crush it because I had to make it disguisable enough and her eating habits if it don't put it in the right food she will notice it and she will quit eating that food and then I've wasted the medicine... Very hard to give I'm not sure if there was a liquid available for this or not but I know the pill was cheap and that's why I chose that option.
Less expensive than Wallgreens and the fact that I no longer will do business with Wallgreens makesChewy a no-brainer decision
My cat needs only 1/4 pill daily, but the Chewy pharmacy did not cut up the pills before sending. My vet always cuts them up. This is a major problem.
This is a different brand of Amlodipine than what my vet provides. My cat lost her appetite and became very lethargic after about a week on these pills. Please be careful and pay attention to your pet if you try this brand!
The trick to splitting this pill is to use feline nail clippers! I personally have the guillotine style clippers and this does work pretty well for me. I have also heard from others to try putting the tablet on its side when using a normal pill splitter but I can’t verify this method. I was paying over $50 to have a pharmacy compound it and mail it to me, but I like the tablets not just because of price, but because I only need 1/2 of a Greenies pill pocket to administer it. Smaller is better!
Its impossible to break these by hand and my pill cutter wont work, which has never happened before in all the meds my dog has been on, and she has been on a lot. They just fall apart weirdly. So its impossible to get the right dose of one fourth of a tab for my small dog.
My female doberman was diagnosed with high blood pressure, I contacted Chewy, ordered the meds and now she is taking this med every day. The order was shipped immediately. The only thing I wish could be better is that the 5mg could be scored, so it would be easier to cut, my dog needs 7 1/2 mg.
Still waiting on my order of Amlodipine tablets from Chewy but I have been getting them from another pharmacy at about 10X the cost, thus the reason we just started ordering them from Chewy. They are for my cat's blood pressure and the dosage is 1/4 of these tiny tablets. All my other pill cutters, that have a single blade cutting from one direction, just broke them into uneven pieces and powder so we splurged and paid about $20 for the pictured pill cutter. Machined aluminum and it cuts from both top and bottom which makes a pretty straight break with minor residue. Works great and solves our problem of cutting these tiny pills into 1/4 sections. I wish they were available at Chewy.
Our cat only needs 1/4 of a tablet and when we use a pill cutter, it crumbles badly. The vet and other pharmacies won't do it if you ordered from somewhere else. I am going to reach out to Chewy and see if they can do the cutting.
Chewy.com has been a lifesaver! Have 2 elderly cats needing meds and special foods, and 1 kitten needing toys, etc. LOL. The breeze litter system fantastic!
