About This Item

Details

  • Lowers blood pressure by blocking the movement of calcium into the smooth muscles of the heart and blood vessels causing the blood vessels to relax and dilate (widen), which improves blood flow into the heart.
  • Works quickly in dogs within the first few hours of ingestion, but it may take up to several days for your dogs blood pressure to improve and stabilize.
  • Treats systemic hypertension in dogs and cats and is considered a drug of choice for managing hypertension.
  • Only calcium channel blocker administered in veterinary medicine that has potent arterial dilatory effects with negligible effects on inotropy and conduction.
  • May be incorporated by veterinarians as part of a broader treatment plan when additional cardiovascular support is needed, based on the pets individual condition and clinical judgment.

The ER vet prescribed this and it was not a good fit for my kittie who only had high blood pressure as a secondary condition and therefore only occasionally like when he is at the ER! This med made him completely whoozy and caused extreme BP fluctuations. Took him off of it after about 3 weeks. Should have done it sooner.

The medication works great for my cat, but they recently changed the pill they send and it’s WAY too small to quarter (which is a pretty common cat dosage). I end up losing at least half a pill due to shattering. I’ve tried every pill splitter known to man and all I get is frustrated. Until they change the vendor, I’ll need to get this filled elsewhere for my mental health.

I'm not sure why, but this tablet is almost indestructible in both the 2.5 and 5 mg dose. I found that using the wire snips in my needle-nose pliers is the best tool to break the tablet down to the dose prescribed by my vet.

I received a different brand of Amlodipine this time and the pills are really small and almost impossible to cut in half as my cat’s daily dosage is 1.25 mg and the pills are 2.5 mg. I love the small size as it would be easier to do, but am looking for advice on how to halve them.

Tiny pills

These pills cannot be cut into two pieces. I have never scene such a small pill. Then to think we can cut it in half is Unreasonable. It disintegrates. Very disappointed

I will now try elsewhere

Like others, I am adding my displeasure in the smaller pill size. I need to give my cat half of a 5 mg pill of amlodipine. It shatters more with this smaller version

My cat needs half a pill every morning, but the pill coating is very hard, the pill is round, and it is impossible to cut the pill cleanly in half, even with a new pill cutter. Sandoz makes a tablet that is oval, scored, and soft enough that it is easy to break the tablet in half with my fingers. Is there anyway to substitute the softer, oval-shaped pill for the one Chewy currently uses? Chewy's customer service was amazing as usual and I received the pills within only a few days of ordering them.
