Will these seeds sprout?

Answer by ChewyMay 20, 2025
Most of Audubon Park seed will sprout except for Thistle seed (Nyjer). To prevent germination, sterilizing your seed will not alter the attractiveness or nutritional value of the seed for your birds. For a gallon of seed, place it in a paper bag and cook it on high in the microwave for 5 minutes. In a conventional oven, place on a flat baking sheet and cook for 30 minutes at 300 degrees,

Blue Jay's pushed a lot out

I often saw the Blue Jay's pushing out the smaller seeds in sprays of it landing on the ground. I had not observed this behavior before. I won't buy this brand

Mostly millet

Thought Audubon would be a good brand but this bag contained mostly millet which many birds don’t eat this time of year.

Birds like it but...

I've been using this food for 3 months now, the birds did not flock to this in a tube feeder. Now I fill our large platform feeder and spread on the ground for birds

I've been using this food for 3 months now, the birds did not flock to this in a tube feeder. Now I fill our large platform feeder and spread on the ground for birds and wildlife. I find the squirrels eat this up more. Frustrating. I have to add peanuts. At the end of the day all the millwt is left behind. At night our raccoon finishes it off but even they won't eat the millet.
