How much phosphorus on a dry matter basis?
Answer by ChewyJul 03, 2020
This formula has a phosphorus content of 0.14% on an as-fed basis (0.71% on a dry matter basis).

What is the % protein, phosphorus, sodium, and omega-3 on a dry matter basis?
Answer by ChewySep 10, 2020
This recipe contains approximately 47.70% Protein, 0.71% Phosphorus and 0.61% Sodium on a Dry Matter basis. Weruva does not add any Omega 3 specifically to hit certain levels, and chicken breast is naturally lower than fish (especially cold-water fish). There are no AAFCO minimums on the Omegas, so this is not something Weruva labs test for regularly.

Does Weruva BFF Play Checkmate Chicken Dinner meet World Small Animal Veterinary Association guidelines?
Answer by ChewyJan 30, 2020
All of Weruva wet food is formulated for adult maintenance and is a complete and balanced meal according to AAFCO standards. Their foods, cans & pouches, are soy, corn and wheat free. The focus of all of their formulas is always with high quality meat, such as boneless, skinless white breast meat chicken and all of their wet foods are grain-free, with no GMOs, hormones, antibiotics, fillers or byproducts.

What is the amount of taurine? Weruva lists taurine on their website for all their foods except for pate formulations
Answer by ChewyMar 01, 2022
Weruva cat formulas all have a minimum 0.05% taurine per AAFCO standards.

Kitty Yummy

My 17-yr-old kitty has kidney disease and Vet put him on KD diet. He lost weight and wasn’t himself. Vet suggested we supplement the diet. I started researching new foods that were low in phosphorus. I called local family owned pet store and they gave me a list of quality foods. I settled on “Weruva“. They have several flavors that are low on phosphorus. It is not a kidney prescription diet but we wanted him to feel better and hoped he could gain some weight back so we stopped the KD. Our kitty has gained weight and is active again! We know kidney disease is not curable but we want him to have the best life possible! He loves the pate’s. We feed him 3X a day. Vet also suggested “Epakitin” (Chewy) based on his blood work. We highly recommend Weruva Cat Food! This particular flavor is moist, lots of liquid - he loves it!

P.U. stinky due to shipping damage

I thought an animal had died in the chimney! The dead animal removal guy who was about to cut into my walls sniffed around and discovered the odor was actually coming from my Chewy order. One of these cans was dented and split open and stinking to high heaven. YUK. It turned out to be a VERY expensive can of cat food with the $95 bill from the dead animal guy .

Great brand!

Since my best cat got a CKD diagnosis I am trying him on all sorts of prescription and regular foods that are low in phosphorus and sodium. Basically all of BFF's offerings meet those criteria. I wonder if I'd used this stuff his whole life if his kidneys would still be healthy today. But at least we have switched now. There are a handful of other foods that have better nutrition stats but the problem is they have gross taste or texture. BFF is the healthiest option that still gets ACTUALLY EATEN. I will teach you a bit if you're new to the brand. It lacks carrageenan, which is a good thing (no more bloody stools since we left that stuff behind) but I think it's that detail that makes BFF separate. You know- you stir it up nicely then plate it and if they don't eat right away, soon there's an offputting puddle of yellow water surrounding the dollop of pate. I have no solution to that other than replating it or wiping the water away with a paper towel, if they don't eat promptly enough. And served as it comes, the pate is too runny and flattens into a puddle itself, like pancake batter rather than a nice creamy mound like softserve ice cream. To reduce these issues I pour off a bit of the juice before stirring, to make a thicker pate. This can only be done with the pate ones like this! They come with the solids in a puck in the middle of a bunch of liquid, so it's easy to remove however much liquid you want. Though I'm sure doing this loses some nutrients, so if your cats aren't fussy don't do it. The other reason I like the way the pate comes separated solids/liquids is that BFF apparently cooks the food in the can and thus there is a big layer of brown "skin" on the bottom of the can. With the way the pate forms a puck, I can dump the puck out into a mug or bowl and scrape that "skin" off the underside before stirring (my cats refuse food that has any bits in it!). The "in gravy" option is very similar to the pate in texture (very fine mince, not chunks at all) except when you open those the solids and liquids are mixed, so you don't have the option to drain some liquid, and digging out the "skin" is much harder. Thus I will stick to the pate ones. I must admit, quality control is imperfect. Some batches really reek, others smell appetizing, even of the same flavor. But Chewy is great about doing a refund if you get a bad batch, and so far I've only had one bad batch out of about ten or twelve. I don't mean "bad" as in it made them ill- they simply wouldn't eat it. So I feel the risk is low. The positives of this brand massively outweigh the faults.

A great food for a finicky cat

Our 19 year old kitty has been a challenge to feed over the years. Now, he prefers his puree to be almost liquified in a blender. This food is one of the few that he will clean totally off of his dish consistently!

kitten loves it

I foster sick and injured kittens for our shelter. Shiloh came in unable to walk because of malnutrition. Our vet said she needed lots of good quality food to strengthen her bones. She is only 4 weeks old so she has tiny teeth. This pate is perfect for her. It has a lot of broth to keep her well hydrated and she loves it so far. My own cats eat Weruva food as well. Simon has CKD and Can be picky about food. He liked this one a lot

Shadow the cat says be sure to order more

It seems a bit watery to me, but what do I know? I'm not the one eating it, my cat loves it though Never got this brand before, will have to try the other flavors I mean of course, Shadow will try them, not me. Although it smells good enough for a human to eat

Even Ferals Won’t Eat

I have 8 office cats, 4 house cats and feed 2 feral colonies only 1 cat would nibble at it! Not sure what’s up with this food but cats would rather starve than eat it.

Picky cat didn’t like it

My cat has kidney disease. He is picky about wet food, and can only have certain kinds. This is a lower phosphorus food that I tried for him. He didn’t like it. It seems like a good quality food, but he just wouldn’t go for it unfortunately. I’ll be donating or giving it to a friend.

My cat loves it

I needed to find a low phosphorus food. So far this is working out great. My cat loves it. Only negatives are the small case size and there is a lot of liquid so opening the can gets messy sometimes.
