Help your sensitive cat get the nutrition she needs and the taste she loves with Blue Buffalo’s NP Novel Protein Alligator Cat Food. Some cats negatively react to common proteins, which can lead to issues like skin irritation and digestion problems. This Blue Buffalo recipe is specially formulated to help manage those issues and minimize reactions. It’s crafted with real alligator, which is rarely linked to food intolerances in cats, and it’s the only source of animal protein in this kitty kibble. This recipe also provides felines with omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil and flaxseed to promote healthy skin and a lustrous coat. Plus, it’s made without grains, corn, wheat or soy and is rich in antioxidants to support a healthy immune system.

Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow a 7 to 14-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. For a 14-day transition plan, start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Days 1-4. On Days 5-8, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Days 9-11, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Days 12-14, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. About BLUE Buffalo
Blue Buffalo began with unconditional love and some furry inspiration from a large breed Airedale, Blue. When Blue's family started a pet food company, their vision was clear. They wanted every pet parent to be able to feed their pet with the same care they would feed family. So they created the #1 natural pet specialty food to help furry family members live happy, healthy lives. Of course, they named it after Blue.

Life changing for my Graham
By Lauren on Dec 6, 2020
My sister’s cat (we live together) Graham was throwing up nearly every other day on his old food (Iams - not a bad food, just not right for him!) The vomit was always comprised of just-eaten kibble. I noticed it when I moved in last year, but my sister was sure it was just because he ate too fast. Then, a month or two ago, we noticed it he was also coughing and sneezing all the time. Definitely vet time. The vet suspected allergies and prescribed this food for him. He’s been on the food for three weeks now and hasn’t vomited once since starting it. It’s amazing. I’ve never seen him go three days without vomiting, let alone three weeks! He’s stopped sneezing and coughing too. He’s stopped sneezing and coughing too. He’s got to be feeling so much better. Our four other cats like the food too, and the vet confirmed it’s perfectly fine for them. Knowing what we do now, we absolutely regret not taking Graham to the vet sooner. We feel awful about what he was going through. But we’re so glad the vet prescribed this food. And to those concerned with the price - trust us, it’s worth it. We’d pay $200 a bag if that’s what it takes to keep Graham’s tummy feeling better - and we’ve got five cats eating it. We go through a lot. If your vet prescribes this food, give it a shot. … more

By Brock on Dec 10, 2020
Couldnt even do food trial because neither of our cats would eat it. Waste of money.

It's probably ok
By StaffToBootstheCat on Apr 17, 2020
Had the Blue Buffalo NP recommended by Boots' dermatology vet. He loved the dry food. Problem was his digestive tract didn't like the food. Had to stop and go back to his previous food after two days. Wish that Blue Buffalo offered smaller bags during food transition.

Great for food allergies that create mouth ulcers
By CatMom on Jan 19, 2020
My cat had terrible mouth ulcers caused by food allergies. This, along with steroids, helped it clear up. She loves this alligator kibble and will beg for it if I try to feed her a different novel protein (like rabbit). She is even gaining weight. Highly recommend it!

My cat is having a bad allergy. Vet took her off all old food and put her on this because she's never had it before. She is eating it, although not loving it.

Excellent Novel Protein Cat Food - my cat approves!
By southcat on Apr 28, 2019
My 7 year old, FIV positive boy began itching and scratching to a point of self harm. He lost much of his fur and had many self-inflicted scratches and sores. We had to attempt multiple therapies to reduce/stop the scratching. The harder part is to find the the cause of severe itching. One of the things that we had to do was to put him on a novel protein diet to rule out a food allergy. Living in Louisiana it seems fitting that he now gets alligator as his source of protein. He really likes this food! The kibble is pretty small (I think my cat would prefer a larger size) and it is expensive, however the quality and palatability are surely worth it. Yummy gator
By Lotsofcats on Apr 29, 2019
My older cat developed IBS and after trying Hills D/D, my fussy cat didn’t like it. Our vet gave us a sample of this gator food. Our cat loves it and so does her digestive system. It’s pricey, but glad our cat is better on it. Even the other cats like to try and sneak a bite as it is tasty to them all:)
