Pets can be sensitive to sudden changes in their diets. For this reason, it is extremely important to follow a gradual transition plan to best support your pet's health and product effectiveness. It is recommended to follow at least a 7-day transition plan before exclusively feeding your pet a new food. Cats will often refuse mixed diets, so we recommend adding the new food to a separate bowl from the old food. Start by mixing 75% of your pet's current diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the current diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the current diet with 75% of the new diet. On Day 7, you can feed your pet the new food exclusively. Ask your Veterinarian about the best way to transition your pet to a new food.

Can Food Help My Itchy Cat?
Scratching, biting and rubbing are signs of what is happening under your cat's coat. Skin issues in cats can be due to food sensitivities.
About Food Sensitivities
Food sensitivities are reactions to normally harmless proteins in the diet and can occur with a cat of any age. A food sensitivity is determined by a food elimination trial which is performed under the supervision of a veterinarian. Your veterinarian may choose a diet that contains hydrolyzed proteins (ones that have already been partially broken down) or novel proteins (ones that your pet is unlikely to have been exposed to).

Signs of Food Sensitivity
Sensitivities to the proteins in your cat's food or environmental irritants can result in a variety of clinical signs and only your veterinarian can determine if a veterinary-exclusive diet is appropriate for your pet. If a diet change is recommended, for best results, it is very important to feed only that food while strictly adhering to your veterinarian's feeding directions.
Find the Right Royal Canin Diet for Your Cat
We have a broad-range of Dermatologic formulas for pets with food sensitives and skin issues. Talk to your veterinarian about the right formula for your pet.

Finally a product that works!
By Alex on Mar 28, 2021
My 13 year old cat has had issues with keeping her food down over the years. She has had pancreatitis and gastritis and is currently on thyroid medication. Most of her life has been dry food. Now,, it is wet food only. We have tried a few brands and they worked for a while then didn't. She loves the Select PR and PD and is excited to eat it! It's a shame RC is stalled in production of these items because I'm not sure which direction to take as all vets and stores are now out of stock. The prescription is working are working and I hope my kitty is around longer because of it.

New can,less product, more moisture
By Ravenhill on Jan 16, 2021
The last time a manufacturer added moisture to the food that was working for my hypersensitive dwarf cat, she almost died while we tried to find something that worked. Now we get new cans that are 1. TALLER 2.WRONG size for any lids made 3. 5.1oz.. instead of 5.9 oz. 4. Moisture max is 88% according to a Chewy rep, not 77.5% as on the previous formula We don't know other changes because the ingredients and analysis are not printed on the can or the case...isn't that a law or something? This also costs more. So today I get to wait to see if my cat begins to vomit or have diarrhea. As it was, the old cans wherein the product seemed less firm bothered her system. Now this. Unlikely to find a working solution before the end of the 17 year old cat's life, which is a shame because she was great on her last check up. … more

It's a Hit!
By Tuck on Mar 19, 2021
My cat is on prescription food which can be hard to find. My vet experienced difficulty getting Royal Canin duck on a regular basis. Thus I turned to Chewy to see if it was available. At first it was out of stock but within a few days I received an email it was available. My cat loves it! The cans are smaller than they used to be but because my cat is very particular I will continue buying it. Quick delivery was much appreciated.

Cat loves just as much as the old, larger can version
By Amber on Feb 22, 2021
My cat loves this duck formula just as much as he liked it when it was in the larger can. He doesn't seem to notice a difference and he's usually a picky eater. Sure, I'm disappointed the can size is smaller but my cat seems happy with the taste and the food visually appears the the same to me when I scoop it out of the can for him. He's been eating this formula for about 2 years (long before the recent reduction in can size). He went on this food originally 2 years ago because he was throwing up several times a week. Now he throws up maybe once a month at most. He was on the rabbit formula originally but he prefers the duck. He DID NOT like the venison.

size and price of food
By Lisa on Apr 3, 2021
My cat is allergic to most cat food. This product is great for her problem she is able to tolerate this food. I was very disappointed that Royal Canin change the size of the can and the prize per case remained the same! It's very expensive1 I am force to find another food for her.

Helps with Allergies
By AKB126 on Mar 1, 2021
Our cat has sever food allergies. She has been on a prescription diet for a few years now. We had been using the Hills Prescription Diet but ran into supply issues due to COVID. We tried the Royal Canin product as a substitute and our cat likes it and has no sensitivity issues with it.

Changes = Not Liked By Cats
By Andy on Jan 13, 2021
As others have written it seems the ingredient changes Royal Canin has done is not being taken well by many kitties in this diet. My 3 are also no longer eating any of this food - I’ve tried PD, PV, and PR. They all turn their nose up. Chewy has been great with supporting my purchase. The only thing I can recommend other cat parents out there who are frustrated to do is contact Royal Canin directly with your honest feedback - +1-800-592-6687 — hopefully if enough of us reach out, they may consider going back to the old recipe

RC Veterinary Diet Selected Protein Adult PD
By LBLB on Jan 17, 2021
I'm quite disgusted with Royal Canin and, IMO, they're corrupt and unethical for what they've done with this food. Went from 5.9oz. to 5.1oz. and the food is dry. It says "in sauce" on the can, but it's dry and my cat won't eat dry canned food. RC doesn't list the ingredients anymore so you can't see how the ingredients has been compromised. Fortunately the vet had a case of the older, moist better quality Adult PR food. Thank you Chewy for refunding my money.

Cat doesn't like smaller can
By Sammy on Jan 4, 2021
I assumed only the can size changed, but my cat hasn't eaten 2 cans of this new smaller-can PD version. They'd been eating the larger can version for like a year, 2/3 can a day. Very unfortunate. Did the formula change along with the can? Or the consistency? I need to switch to something they'll eat.

Special cat food
By Vickie on Jan 16, 2021
I have a special needs kitty who has several stomach issues and had stomatitis which required removing all his teeth. This is the only food he can eat that doesn't upset his stomach. It's healthy, good for him and he loves it.
