About Royal Canin Dermatology For Cats

Worried About Your Cat’s Skin Health?

Skin health concerns are common and can appear anywhere on your cat’s body. Your veterinarian is the expert on your cat’s health, so you should always consult with this trusted advisor to find the best solutions for your pet. This specialized expertise is why Royal Canin works closely with veterinarians to develop formulas that support skin health.

Common Causes of Skin Health Concerns

Environmental Sensitivities

Pollen, plants and dust are environmental factors that can trigger an immune response in some cats.

Food Sensitivities

Your veterinarian may recommend a diet elimination trial to help determine if your pet has a sensitivity to certain proteins in his current diet.

Parasites

Your cat can pick up external parasites such as mites, fleas, ticks and lice from contaminated sources, both indoors and out.

Infection

Kittens, older cats, and cats that have recently been ill may be more susceptible to bacterial infections that can lead to skin health concerns.

How Can Nutrition Help?

Your veterinarian may recommend a Royal Canin Dermatology formula for your cat. These special formulations can:

Aid digestive health by regulating movement through the GI tract and supporting balanced digestive flora

Support the skin’s natural protective barrier

Aid cellular health with a complex blend of antioxidants.

Promote healthy skin and coat by providing long chain omega-3 fatty acids in the diet

Find The Perfect Balance

With a dry and wet feeding routine, dry food supports positive oral health while wet food supports healthy hydration.

Autoship

Keep your pet's feeding on schedule.  Set your order for Autoship to make sure you always have their veterinarian-recommended nutrition on hand.

What is the difference between “PD”, “PR”, and “PV”? Thanks!
Answer by ChewyMar 15, 2018
The PD formula is Duck protein, the PR formula is Rabbit protein, and the PV formula is Venison protein.

What is the phosphorus content of this food? My vet and I believe my cat has a food allergy, but she also has early onset kidney disease and low phosphorus content is a must.
Answer by ChewyMay 29, 2020
The phosphorous content of the Selected Protein PD Dry for cats is 1% on an as-fed basis.

What exactly is "duck by-product meal"?
Answer by ChewyMar 28, 2023
The duck by-products are the ground, clean parts of the duck, which include internal organs, bone/cartilage, and other parts. Royal Canin only uses high-quality by-products such as hearts, livers, and lungs and when processed properly, by-products provide valuable nutrients for the pet.

How long does this food stay fresh once opened?
Answer by ChewySep 27, 2022
The food is best used within one month of opening but will be fine for up to two months if the bag is being stored properly.

It's working for us

One of my cats gets diarrhea with all wet food and most dry food. We had him on a dry-only diet (the Purina Pro Plan Gastroenteric one) for about three years and that failed, too. I guess he built up a tolerance? Right now, we've been using this for about 18 months and it's still working. We switch back and forth between the PD and the PR and it seems to keep my cat happy, while keeping the litterbox not looking like a marsh. I use the 8.8 lb pound bag and feed it to both my cats (I don't risk my one fuzzball having "cheat days" with wet food). I tried the wet-food version of this stuff (both the PD and PR) and it still gave my cat diarrhea. Yes, this food is expensive, but the dry food version works for us. I'm glad my cat isn't having the runs for days on end.

My cat love it

Very good diet for cats with special needs, especially for my cat, who has food allergy with very picky eating habits. He loves the food so much, I don’t have to worry about him being sick due to food allergy.

Excellent quality and my cat loves it!

I was nervous about switching to a Veterinary Diet esp a limited ingredient diet and my cat not liking the taste. My cat loves the PD! The dry bag is expensive, but lasts a long time (8lb bag). I've raised other cats and a dog on the regular Royal Canin food and have always been pleased with the quality of the product and the noticeable effects on those cat's and dog's coats. Chewy saved the day when I needed to order this on the fly. I'm very appreciative. Thanks!!!

Helpful for cat with IBD

Our 2 year old cat has really bad IBD. Nothing helped. Other Dry food made it soo much WORSE. This is the first dry food that he has eaten in the last year that hasnt made him super sick. Compared to the wet food version, he feels fuller after eating. He drinks much more water because theres not as much moisture as the wet food, but its helping right now. Gave a lower star because the price is ridiculous.

Cats love it

I got the wet version for one of my cats, but I also use this as back up, and give a few bites to my other two cats as well. They all love it - think it's a treat.

Did not agree with Scrabble

Unfortunately, Scrabble did not react well to this food (the dry version of his current wet-food Rx diet). That doesn't mean he didn't like it, though. We "hid" the 8 lb bag in a closet, which he promptly found and chewed through the bag and had a nice little feast! Ha! But he threw it all up a few minutes later. I'm sure it's a perfectly fine product, just not for Scrabble.

great product but could be better

this is the only food my cat can stomach and i’ve been buying thru chewy for years now because it was such a great deal, always cheaper than buying from my vets office. however, price has gone up so much that it’s only $2 cheaper now with chewy auto-ship. also i’m not sure if they started using different material or what but suddenly the bags are cheap and the resealable liner breaks every. single. time. we open a new bag.

Love Love Love it

My cats are very picky eaters when it comes to the healthy diet foods, not sure where they get that hahah. I had to switch my boys to this food due to one having digestive issues and the other having skin issues. They both love it and we no longer have the skin issue or digestive issues.
