About BLUE Buffalo

Blue Buffalo began with unconditional love and some furry inspiration from a large breed Airedale, Blue. When Blue's family started a pet food company, their vision was clear. They wanted every pet parent to be able to feed their pet with the same care they would feed family. So they created the #1 natural pet specialty food to help furry family members live happy, healthy lives. Of course, they named it after Blue.

Tragedy!

Wild Bits now have a terrible odor, are no longer soft and chewy and have been vomited up by both my dogs. I am most upset I got my usual order of 5 bags, which is a major investment, and now I have to just throw them away. I opened 2 bags, thinking the first one opened was just 1 bad bag. I'd really like a refund, but know that will not happen. I can't believe you made these changes! It's going to be a big adjustment for my 2 rescue dogs to no longer have these treats they so loved!

Formula change ruined it

Another review to note that the formula change made this inedible for our senior dog. He recently got diagnosed with IBD and finally we stumbled on crumbling up his training treats over his meals. He would eat all his food. Now the treats are hard and dense, so he spits them out. Working them up in a Vitamix made the loudest racket and still didn't even crumble them. Very frustrating. Did it save the company tens maybe even hundreds of dollars?

Ingredient change impacted texture

These were our go to treat. They were soft and tasty up until recently. We got a bag and they seemed different in color and texture. Dogs were not fans. I reached out to Blue Buffalo and they shared: -The reformulated Wilderness Bits launched at the beginning of the year. Some minor changes to the formula include adding Tapioca Starch and Sweet Potatoes and removing the Chickpea. We also replaced Phosphoric and Sorbic Acid with Lactic Acid. The product will look a little darker as a result of the increased sweet potato and will also be a little denser and the texture may change slightly. However, they should not be overly hard.- My dogs loved the previous consistency, it was soft and they were able to chew it with ease. We had found these were great for my pup that was senior and had some missing teeth. I will not be buying these anymore due to this change. System will not let me use quotes or apostrophes so excuse the grammar.

Dogs love them

My dogs love these but I did find them to be a little hard this time. I have small dogs and when they gobble down something hard they can choke so I had to end up cutting these smaller. They still love them but wish they were as soft as before.

Recipe changed

My pups use to love these. But they changed the recipe. They use to be soft small square pieces you could break in half. Now they are a oval like shape and hard. My pups are not a fan anymore.

formula changed

A few others have mentioned this, but within the last month or two the formula seems to have changed. The treats used to be soft, chewy, and breakable (I could break one treat into 2 or 3 rewards) but the new formula has the treats harder and darker - honestly they look like they’ve gone bad or stale, so not great. We used to love these but won’t be reordering.

Hard As A Rock

Super disappointed in this formula change. They are inedible as they are rock hard now. Our almost 15 yr old Shih Tzu won’t be able to eat them. We have been purchasing them for a long time (I loved them) and will have to find something else. They used to be soft and able to be broken in 2.

New formula?

These treats are much more harder, a darker color and even a different shape. These are way different than they used to be, unfortunately my pup doesnt like em as much as the old ones. From changing their formula on their dry food to their now training treats, I may start looking for a whole new brand altogether to purchase from.

Please switch back to original texture

My pup has been enjoying the salmon and duck recipe for 4 years, but the new texture means that I cannot break them down into 2 pieces for snuffle mats of quick repetitive commands where stopping to chew is inconvenient. Sadly, I will not buy again.

Previously Bettter

I add one or two to my dog's regular food to encourage him to eat. They are usually softer and chewable. Last bag are dry and hard, not good for him to swallow. Maybe they are old?
