Transition Instructions
When changing to Taste of the Wild, we recommend making a gradual transition over 7 - 10 days to help avoid possible digestive upset in sensitive pets. Add a small amount of new food to your dog’s previous diet, gradually increasing the new and decreasing the previous diet until the transition is complete.
Learn More About Taste of the Wild From Our Team of Experts
They might not be wolves or coyotes, but today's domestic dogs share the same ancestral cravings. To satisfy these instinctual appetites, Taste of the Wild wet and dry formulas are made with real, roasted meat plus fruits, vegetables and legumes that are chosen for their specific health benefits.
Energy That Lasts
Taste of the Wild is made with premium meats like wild boar; buffalo; smoked salmon and turkey; and roasted bison, lamb, quail, venison and duck. Every formula is grain-free and provides lasting energy with complex carbs from sweet potatoes and legumes. These highly digestible proteins and fiber-rich carbohydrates will keep your pup feeling full and energized throughout the day.
Immune System Support
Since 70% of your pet's immune system is found in the gut, it makes sense to choose a food that's good for the digestive tract. Taste of the Wild includes prebiotics and species-specific probiotics with bacteria that's naturally found in a dog's GI tract. The proprietary K9 Strain probiotics are added after the kibble is cooked so your dog gets guaranteed live, active cultures that support healthy digestion.
Maximizing Nutrient Absorption
To help your pet's body absorb all of the beneficial minerals in her food, Taste of the Wild recipes have chelated minerals. That means they can easily attach to proteins for absorption during digestion. So your canine pal will enjoy the full value of every carefully selected mineral that these foods have to offer.
Perfectly Balanced Omegas
Taste of the Wild gives your pup just the right dose of omega fatty acids in every bite. Marine-sourced omega-3 comes from salmon oil, smoked salmon or ocean fish meal, or a combination of these ingredients. Omega-6 from plant sources balance out the omega-3s, and they work together to help maintain your pet's skin and coat health and to support overall wellness.

Has anyone else noticed issues with product volume? Or has the bag been changed from a 30lb bag to a 28lb bag? I ask because this bag used to overfill our feed bin. Now, it doesn’t even reach the top of the bin.
Answer by Jennifer • Aug 09, 2023
I haven’t noticed that but I have noticed Chewy not having the 28lb bag in stock that often anymore. I have to order it from other stores instead.
is there a promo code that I can use
Looking to maybe change to fish based food due to allergies and atopic dermititis (need more fatty acids), but I'm worried about the smell. Does this food have a heavy fish odor?
Answer by • Dec 29, 2017
Since this food is made with real natural ingredients, there may be a fish smell.
Are your bags resealable ?
Thanks,
Answer by • Jun 28, 2017
Taste of the Wild bags are not resealable. You can roll the top and use a clip to ensure freshness, or store it in an air-tight container.
I got 2 - 2 year old huskies from a shelter this past January and they have been on this food since, 1 past time they got diarrhea and vomiting after eating a new bag for a days but were fine quickly and have been fine for a few months. I just received 2 new bags and within 2-3 days of eating the new bag they both have diarrhea and vomiting again. I'm sure its this food, they didn't get into anything and my German Shepherd who eats Nutro is perfectly fine.

My Dog Did Not Approve...
Let me start by saying, my dog is a picky eater. But she really didn't like this one. We couldn't get her to eat it no matter what we mixed in. This food also made her allergies flare up worse than anything else we've fed her before. It may be worth a shot to try it because every dog is different. But I will not be buying this food for my sweet girl again...

Great Choice
Have tried a few different foods for my small buddy. He has a little mouth and even with small sized dog foods they are hard for him to chew. This is still dry and a little bigger but he has no trouble at all and loves it! Will continue with this great find.

Overall a good quality food for food sensitivities
I’ll start off by saying that I didn’t switch to this food by choice. I used to feed my dogs Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Stomach but I saw that they switched formulas abruptly and without notifying any customers and I didn’t want to take any chances. My parents have a Rhodesian Ridgeback that has been allergy tested and has essentially every allergy known to man (okay maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but the list of allergies is two pages long) and they feed her this food to avoid her food allergens. She does great with it since she can essentially only have fish for protein! I switched my dogs to this food and they have also had very healthy poops since, as well as soft, shiny, healthy coats. The only drawback really for me is that it really gives them some potent doggy breath. Looks like I’ll be brushing their teeth more often! But honestly if the only drawback is something that will also be good for them in the long run that’s okay with me! The food does smell but I keep it in an airtight container which has worked great.

Palatable and doesn't stink
I've always stayed away from fish foods because of the strong odor. This one isn't bad and all 3 of my dogs like and transitioned easily in terms of their GI. We're rotating Taste of the Wild proteins and this will stay in the rotation!

Something changed!
I just wanted to post this review in case anyone else started having problems recently. After reading some of the other reviews I feel like a horrible pet parent. I changed to TOTW Pacific Stream in 2021 and loved it, so did my dog. He was a regular eater and I purchased the large bag like clockwork every 6 weeks. In the past 10 months or so I started noticing quality issues. The main problem was that the food seemed much lighter in color and after about 3 weeks of eating this, my dog started scratching a lot. He also would walk over, smell his food bowl and then walk away. He also started vomiting randomly which wasn’t alarming at first since he is a Labrador. I contacted Chewy and they replaced the bag free of charge (great company!). I dumped out the light colored food on my fence line and no animals touched it for more than a month. The next bag I got seemed ok, then I got another one that was light again. I attempted to contact TOTW via email several times without response and called too. I spoke to someone and I provided the product /lot number to them but it never went anywhere. The next bag I got had a mix of light and dark pieces in it and my dog definitely slowed down eating this food by now. His random vomiting continued and seemed linked to eating his dry food. His consumption slowed down to a bag every 10-12 weeks. It seemed like he lost all interest in eating his food unless he was really hungry, then only a couple of bites. He started to lose weight too which is when I became worried and made an abrupt change from TOTW food. Almost immediately he stopped vomiting and he became interested in the new dry food. I don’t know what happened to the quality of TOTW Pacific Stream but something changed. I did see a couple other review where a customer commented on how the color changed of the food. Just wanted to share my story.

Food
This was the last bag of food I bought for my Max. He passed away on the 29th of August. He always loved this brand and flavor, I never switched from it. I would treat him with the canned version, which he totally loved. I'm going to missed my best friend of 14 years and spoiling him with all the treats from Chewy, they have been so great to us. I would totally recommend them to any pet owner.
