About Taste of the Wild Dog Food

The Diet Nature Intended

They might not be wolves or coyotes, but today's domestic dogs share the same ancestral cravings. To satisfy these instinctual appetites, Taste of the Wild wet and dry formulas are made with real, roasted meat plus fruits, vegetables and legumes that are chosen for their specific health benefits.

Energy That Lasts

Taste of the Wild is made with premium meats like wild boar; buffalo; smoked salmon and turkey; and roasted bison, lamb, quail, venison and duck. Every formula is grain-free and provides lasting energy with complex carbs from sweet potatoes and legumes. These highly digestible proteins and fiber-rich carbohydrates will keep your pup feeling full and energized throughout the day.

Immune System Support

Since 70% of your pet's immune system is found in the gut, it makes sense to choose a food that's good for the digestive tract. Taste of the Wild includes prebiotics and species-specific probiotics with bacteria that's naturally found in a dog's GI tract. The proprietary K9 Strain probiotics are added after the kibble is cooked so your dog gets guaranteed live, active cultures that support healthy digestion.

Maximizing Nutrient Absorption

To help your pet's body absorb all of the beneficial minerals in her food, Taste of the Wild recipes have chelated minerals. That means they can easily attach to proteins for absorption during digestion. So your canine pal will enjoy the full value of every carefully selected mineral that these foods have to offer.

Perfectly Balanced Omegas

Taste of the Wild gives your pup just the right dose of omega fatty acids in every bite. Marine-sourced omega-3 comes from salmon oil, smoked salmon or ocean fish meal, or a combination of these ingredients. Omega-6 from plant sources balance out the omega-3s, and they work together to help maintain your pet's skin and coat health and to support overall wellness.

Ingredients for Better Health

The powerful superfood trio of blueberries, raspberries and tomatoes can be found in every delicious recipe, along with their immune-boosting properties.

TOMATOES AND TOMATO POMACE: Help support overall health by providing vitamin C, soluble fiber and rich in concentrated lycopene, a premier antioxidant.

BLUEBERRIES: Antioxidant-rich superfood that's full of flavor and loaded with vitamins C and E, healthy carbs, dietary fiber and manganese.

RASPBERRIES: Delicious berries packed with potassium, manganese, copper, iron and magnesium, and they also provide fiber and antioxidants.

Questions & Answers

36 Customer Questions

Are all of the ingredients from the US or are some outsourced from China?
Answer by ChewyOct 24, 2017
Taste of the Wild uses some ingredients that are not USA sourced, lamb from New Zealand, lamb meal and venison from Australia, duck meal from France, potato protein from Germany and dried chicory root from Belgium. There are ingredients that are critical to the formulations (i.e. folic acid and taurine) that can only be sourced out of China.

Are there any artificial colors or dyes in this food?
Answer by ChewyJul 20, 2017
It's not uncommon to see the color of dry food vary a bit from batch to batch. This happens when the ingredients are all natural, just as the ingredients in the Taste of the Wild formulas are. Taste of the Wild formulas are free from additives and dyes which are typically used to keep the kibble color consistent.

where are the ingredients and where is Taste of the Wild made?
Answer by ChewyJun 22, 2021
Taste of the Wild dog and cat foods are made in five state-of-the-art facilities in the USA: two in California and one each in Missouri, Arkansas and South Carolina. They use some ingredients that are not USA sourced, lamb and venison from New Zealand, lamb meal from Australia, buffalo from India, salmon from Norway and South America, salmon meal from South America, duck meal from France, potato protein from Germany and dried chicory root from Belgium. There are ingredients that are critical to our formulations (i.e. folic acid and taurine) that can only be sourced out of China. Taste of the Wild is to either include these ingredients or manufacture our foods without them, which would not be in the best interest of your pet, in their view.

I had my picky dog do a taste test against a well known brand

I had bought my very picky eater dog a well known more expensive dry dog food that he seemed to like pretty well. I started doing research on the best dry dog foods out there. Taste of the Wild was in quite a few top 10 lists that I saw. I read about it and I thought it sounded like a good food and it sounded quite tasty in my opinion. I decided to give it a try. As I opened this new bag of Taste of the Wild dog food my dog started to drool in anticipation of eating it. I put it next to his expensive dog food and he ignored the other dog food and dove into the Taste of the Wild bowl. Fast forward a month and he has consistently eaten the Taste of the Wild dog food over the other dog food. I was quite surprised. I am very happy with my decision and am won over to this brand.

Huge fan of the brand

My girl is a 7.5 month old German Shepherd/Red Heeler/Pit mix, and she is super picky. I have tired several other brands and I always had to add toppings of some kind for her to eat it. I never have to add anything with this brand. I always get a 5lb bag and change the flavor each time I get a new bag, usually I get 2 different bags at a time. She has tried them all now, and is a clear fan of all of them. 100% win!!

Our dogs loved this food

Our dogs absolutely loved this food. It agreed with their stomachs. They had great weight on the food. They practically banged the door down every time it was meal time. Unfortunately due to DCM and the uncertainty surrounding it, we chose not to feed this food after a couple months on it. I cannot deny though that our Corgis & Aussie looked wonderful while on the kibble though. If you have reason to go grain free, don't hesitate to try this kibble out.

My picky eater chose this

After years of eating the same dry dog food, both my dogs went on strike. One relented after a day or so, but the other let me know she was tired of it. I purchased 4 different brand/flavor combinations in 4-5 pound bags and of the 4, they both liked this the best. We are on our first large bag, but hopefully they'll accept this for a while...

Dogs love TOTW!!!

We discovered TOTW years ago when we rescued a husky/malamute mix that wS an extremely picky eater. We went through so many different brands of dog food, I lost count. With some of them, he would eat certain pieces out of the bowl, but pick around and leave behind other pieces. Other brands, he snubbed completely. And the brands that he ate parts of, our other 2 dogs wanted nothing to do with. Then we discovered TOTW. We found it on a list of the best 10 dog foods that were available at the time. We tried a few of the others without success. Our dogs didn't like them...but when we got TOTW, the dogs loved it! They all ate it enthusiastically! And since then, it's all we have fed our dogs. We have had quite a few...a beagle mix, a pit/retriever mix, 2 husky/malamute mixes, 2 husky/foxhound mixes, 2 GSD's, 2 havanese, a golden doodle and a white husky. All have loved this food. I think that part of the reason is the smaller size pieces that the kibble comes in. It's been my experience that even with the larger dogs, they don't like the big chunks of food. They prefer the smaller pieces. Maybe that's why we always find them eating the cat food, huh? Think about it! As for me, I order 3 different flavors at a time and then mix it in my dog food bin. My dogs love it! And up to this point, I have yet to find any dog that hasn't liked it.

Great Brand of Dry Dog Food

This is a great brand of dry dog food and what’s nice about it is it’s grain free. My dog loves the taste and it’s just the right size of kibble for her. She is not a finicky eater so she always eats everything. Thank you chewy for selling this product!

Kibble that gets eaten

Finally we found a kibble that my dog will eat without having to top it with wet food, etc. She eats it all right away and seems to love it. The pieces are nicely sized as well, for larger dogs -similar to the size of a M&M.

Taste of the Wild

My experience with this brand and flavor was not good. Every time I fed the food to my Aussie, he threw it up. This was a total surprise as he normally eats anything and everything. Either the recipe did not agree with him or something was wrong with the dogfood.
