This feed is suitable for senior horses and ponies with carbohydrate sensitivities or those needing a low-calorie diet.

What is the NSC level and what is the iron content?

This feed has a maximum NSC of 14% and 12.6% on a dry matter basis. The iron content is 500 ppm, minimum on a dry matter basis and 450 ppm on an as-fed basis.

Is this balancer safe for mules?

The Senior Balancer is safe for mules. However, the feeding rate should be lower, about 75% of what is recommended for horses. For example, if it is recommended that a horse receive 1 pound per day, a mule should receive about ¾ lb. Mules are a little more efficient than horses, so we recommend feeding about 25% less for donkeys and mules compared to what we recommend for horses.

He Likes It!

While the equine world may refer to a horse that isn't picky about his food as an "Easy Keeper", I find it a challenge to manage his weight. I've switched to a ration balancer as he is on pasture/ dry lot rounds 24/7/365. The first one (available locally) he would not eat. He finally came around to it but not until he learned how to dump the grain pan. I should have started with Buckeye. Been a Buckeye fan for 20 years. Lesson learned!

Less sugar and easy to eat!

I have gotten this before for my Miniature Horse Silver. She loves it but we had kept it outside in a barrel and it got moisture in it and then came mold. We tried

I have gotten this before for my Miniature Horse Silver. She loves it but we had kept it outside in a barrel and it got moisture in it and then came mold. We tried another food and made the decision to keep it in the house and take out only a little at a time. So, now we are back to this Buckeye Senior and will keep it in the house this time. Silver and myself are happy to be back with this feed!

Though Dillon isn't a really picky eater, he has metabolic issues and has to be medicated as well as kept on a strict diet. He eats fly control pellets and won't

Though Dillon isn't a really picky eater, he has metabolic issues and has to be medicated as well as kept on a strict diet. He eats fly control pellets and won't eat them unless they're mixed in something. He's been medicated long enough (metabolic but not Cushing's) that he's gotten super picky about his grain. He gobbles this right up without a moments hesitation. I'm a fan of Buckeye anyway, so I'm glad this lives up to the name. Thank you.
