I think fat's a pretty color for quarter horses. Mine are 2 aging geldings (15 and 19) who have become "pasture ornaments" so when they both began to show weight loss, their feed ration was increased a bit and they were started on Ultimate Finish 40. That was only 2 or 3 weeks ago and they're both coming back to their usual "round-ish" shapes.
I bought this because I have two older horses that need to keep their weight up. One of them is a SUPER picky eater. So far she seems to eat this ok, shes just not a big eater though. The other mare loves her food and will eat most stuff easily. Its been too early to tell if it is helping them gain any weight. But just the fact that they will eat this, is huge for the picky mare!
When I started using this it was under $50 a bag. I had 4 horses on it, all doing great. Recommended this to everyone. Now, it has nearly doubled in price. I am forced to switch products and no longer recommended it due to the insane price increase.
I have a 32 yr old AQHA gelding who means the world to me. As he's aged he went from very easy keeper to hard keeper. My animals receive excellent care. I've been using this product for a couple years and was pleased with the results. However, I can't justify the insane price increase. My auto-ship orders are typically $1200 a month through Chewy. I tried the 25% fat and the 100% fat versions and wasn't happy. So, I did some research. I try and purchase most of my animal supplies through Chewy with the exception of beet pulp pellets and alfalfa cubes. Those we buy from a well known chain farm store. I decided to try a new fat supplement while there and been using it for 2 months. It's $~$38 for 9.4lbs. Made by Farnam. My horse receives 8oz daily, same as he did the Buckeye. But, Farnam sends me coupons for $15 off per bucket and I can print the same coupon online. So, it's WAY cheaper and I'm happy with the results. It's also backed by 100% satisfaction guarantee.
I am always impressed by Chewy’s quick shipping! It makes a big difference in my life with a horse, dogs, and cats!
Worked Fabulously on my Low Weight Mare; who had a bad bought of Colic months ago, but just couldn’t get her weight back up!); This worked in just 2 Weeks!! Her Hips have filled back in & I’m still watching her Topline, needs a bit more attention!(; Great for my Shiny Huge Black Stallion, too! My Big Boy Lover!!!!!!( :
Love this product but the huge price jump in just a month makes it a struggle to continue to want to use. Hoping it goes down before I need to purchase again, but will be looking to switch products.
I started using this around spring. It was just under $50. Then increased to $56.50. Now within a month it is $74 for a 20lb bag!
My 26 year old OTTB is extremely picky with his food and treats. He actually loves this supplement and is gaining weight.
I have 2 horses on this, 8 oz. Per day, 4oz per meal. 1 is a OTTB that has had 3 colts and now bringing her back into work. She gets 8lbs of triple crown senior per day, and 8oz of this. She typically will shift through powders, but eats this up! 2nd horse is an 11 year old Dutch/TB mare who has a hard time keeping a topline. We are 3 weeks of 8lbs TC senior and 8oz a day and I am starting 5o see a HUGE difference! I will be keeping the horses on this! Much cheaper and more palatable then oils and other supplements I have tried.
