My dog is trained to use dog grass. She is a Heinz 57 (mutt) with proportions that make it difficult for her to use the grass boxes as an adult and has more than once injured herself trying to. So in 2021 I came up with the idea of putting dog grass on chuck pads outside of the box (chuck pads were far too small for the dog grass) and upgraded to reusable pads shortly afterward. Given her long-leggedness and long torso, I first made her a 48x36 setup using four segments of dog grass purchased as replacements for the box style. 2025 the reusable pads were in need of replacement but the 48x36 size is very difficult to find again and when I did find it, super disappointed does not aptly describe how I felt. This brand was recommend to me by Chewy CS after that failure and though not the size I was originally searching for, I decided to give them a shot given they looked similar in construction to the ones that lasted four years. Unfortunately, these run smaller than the 24x36 claim and so the idea of putting two side by side would not work as there would be a high risk of leakage onto the patio through the seam. However, my girl will use the smaller size as pictured with a bit of complaint. I have been using the pads for two weeks now and I'm very pleased. The biggest complaint I see with these is the lingering odors and not washing properly. Urine will set when heated and requires an enzyme to mostly remove. What I do and have done since I went the reusable route is rinse the pads in cool water, then wash with detergent and oxiclean odor blasters in warm water to activate the oxiclean. (Vinegar and dish liquid in a cool water soak after rinsing may help with the smell if particularly bad but the best thing would be a urine enzyme.) They are then hung to dry. As for leakage, I have not experienced any but these aren't designed to hold infinite urine. With my 10lb girl one pad lasts one day. And she doesn't have any health concerns that would lead to frequent urination. Cat urine is much more concentrated and is a bit tougher to get out of these than dog urine. Soaking in Vinegar and OxiClean usually worked. (have had other cats use this setup instead of their own liter boxes which dissuades my girl from using it afterward until I can get the whole thing as thoroughly cleaned as I possibly can)
