Where is this food manufactured? Are ingredients from the USA?

Answer by ChewyApr 16, 2018
Canine Caviar is made in the USA. All ingredients are sourced from the USA except for the Lamb, which comes from New Zealand.

Is this grain free?

Answer by ChewyJun 19, 2024
This recipe does include grain.

Is this food processed via extrusion like regular kibble?

Answer by ChewyNov 07, 2018
Canine Caviar uses a flash cooked, twin screw, extrusion process that cold presses nutrients before flash heating them. They also have their own fermentation culture that, unlike live yeasts or probiotics that can’t survive extrusion, is not as sensitive to heat.

How much of the protein is meat based?

Answer by ChewyJan 17, 2018
Lamb protein and Lamb Fat is approximately 92% of their protein within the formula.

Good, but not great stuff. They use meat meal vs. whole meats, and that’s just a cheap shortcut, but it’s better than meat by products which they don’t use. But for the money they charge, they should be using whole meat, not meal !. My dogs favorite is their duck, but they will eat this, and it’s recommended to routinely changes protein sources , Lamb, Duck, Venison, Water Buffalo, Chicken, Fish. My dogs like the Duck and Venison the most, chicken third place, then fish, but they don’t like the Water Buffalo at all, but your pets may like it. I feed my dogs a lot of fresh meat, and just use kibble to round out their diet, as it is more complete nutrition profile .

As a few others have said, the quality of this product isn't what it used to be. We have a Pitt/Chow/Boxer who is allergic to most commercial grade kibbles, but she could always eat this food and thrived on it. For the past few months, however, she has been licking her paws and stomach/crotch area. I never thought that it could be the food but now I truly believe that it is. I am at a point where I am most likely going to start feeding grain free kibbles again. There just aren't enough high-quality foods available with grains these days, and my understanding is that as long as the food contains a taurine additive then you're covered as far as DCM goes. I really wish Chewy could get brands like Nutrisource, Open Farm, and Fromm. Although none of those are perfect foods, they are all good brands to have in a rotation IMO. I tried Farmina Cod formula but something in it made our dog break out really bad (I suspect it was the spelt). for now, it'll be Acana (with grain and grain free) until I can figure out other options.

Mastiff itches Gone!

Thank you so much canine KVR and Chewy. I had my dog on canine caviar years ago and then took them off and then had problems so I went back to it.

It's been great for our Labrador to have this in the mornings and the Canine Caviar Special Needs Blend in the evenings. The variety has been a nice, energetic, fun change for her vs. having the same thing twice a day. Lamb in the morning and Chicken in the evening.

Corgis love food, and weight management can be tricky but this food seems to keep him balanced. Though he loves food, our little loaf is exceptionally picky with what we put in his bowl. His coat looks fantasic. He also seems satisfied with a smaller portion of this vs store brand, so we consider it to average out the higher price point. His vet is pleased with this choice because he maintains a steady weight without needing adjustments.

Been feeding our 3 year old bernedoodle this for almost her entire life. They changed packaging a little while ago and along with that they changed their recipe. Ever since then she has been licking her paws, rear end and scratching her face much more. After doing some reading the change of recipe explains it. Sucks too bc her poops are perfect on it. But on to look into a new food.

I would caution anyone with dogs that have a malady like diabetes or needing to put weight on your dog. This food is amazing and transitions perfectly with other Canine Caviar blends. We're trying to put weight on our pup that was recently diagnosed with diabetes and this food seems to be the most gentle. We've went from hard hard stools to almost soft serve ice cream overnight, but it's not overly messy and the pups aren't in any discomfort and zero gas. This food is perfect.

I switched to Canine Caviar in 2022 when my beagle, Buddy, was diagnosed with cancer in his lungs. I believe it, along with other supplements, extended his life several months and greatly improved its quality. I am still using it for my Rhodesian Ridgeback/Catahoula mix, Mabel, and she is thriving on it.
