Carprofen is tolerated well in the vast majority of dogs, and the risk for side effects occurring appears to be less than 1%. But rarely, serious side effects (stomach ulcers, liver, or kidney problems) and sometimes death have been reported.
Side effects that may be serious or indicate a serious problem:
If you see any of these signs, stop giving the drug and contact your veterinarian immediately.

This class of drug may be associated with gastrointestinal, renal and hepatic toxicity. When nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs inhibit prostaglandins that cause inflammation they may also inhibit those prostaglandins which maintain normal homeostatic function. This may result in clinically significant disease in pets with the underlying or pre-existing disease more often than in healthy pets. The use of parenteral fluids during surgery should be considered to reduce the potential risk of renal complications when using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs perioperatively.

Carprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medication that helps relieve the pain and inflammation that occurs with arthritis in dogs. It also helps bring relief from other joint problems and can help your pet to feel better after surgery. Carprofen is the generic alternative to Rimadyl, Novox, and Vetprofen.
Carprofen can be given once a day or it can be split into twice daily dosing. Your veterinarian will determine the dosage of medication and the frequency at which it should be given. Give this medication by mouth (orally). Gastrointestinal upset including vomiting and diarrhea may be minimized if Carprofen is given with food. Carprofen should be given at the lowest dose necessary to help your dog to feel better. You should never administer Carprofen to a pet other than the one for which it has been prescribed for.
Chemicals in the body called prostaglandins are reduced with Carprofen. Since prostaglandins trigger inflammation, minimizing them helps decrease inflammation and pain that occurs as a result of arthritis, surgery, and other joint conditions.
Symptoms of arthritis include stiffness, trouble walking, and difficulty rising. These symptoms can be relieved with Carprofen although this medication will not cure arthritis since there is no known cure for this chronic condition. Your dog should start to feel better although results vary in each individual. If you discontinue Carprofen you may notice your dogs symptoms returning.
Also available in flavored tablets and chewable tablets
My dog has had significant mobility problems due to severe arthritis. This medication has had a great impact on his general mobility and quality of life.
My first time requesting medications for this pet on chewy. I ordered generic carprofen. The header: 60 of Carprofen (Generic) Caplets for Dogs, 100-mg, for quantity I selected 1.... A SINGLE BOTTLE OF 60 caplets. Explain to me why I was shipped A SINGLE CAPLET.
My 12.5 year old lab has been Carfrofen for two weeks and I believe it has helped with joint issues. He seems livlier and more perky.
“Vinny”, my 7 year old dachshund mix, has two torn CCLs and arthritis. Carprofen was recommended by THREE different vets. While awaiting December surgery, Carprofen has been a life saver. Vinny actually feels better-although he cannot do so, he wants to run and play very badly because his meds make his injuries and arthritis feel so much better. I absolutely recommend Carprofen for any dog with leg injuries, arthritis, or any ailment involving inflammation.
I ordered this for my 14 year old dog she is very old with arthritis and has a lot of pain in her joints they refused to call my vet and told me that my vet does faxes and I need to wait I called my vet they said they approved it and Chewy claims they did not my vet said this happens all the time with them please do not order from them they made me feel like my dog was not worth their time Toni was the rep I spoke with and they said they were leadership not very leadership of you
The price was much less then the Vet's, and the product shipped quickly. Very pleased!
We have bought this medicine several times and will continue to. However this time very disappointed because the bottle is broken. Not just s crack or one break but several breaks.
This destroyed my dogs insides. I’m devastated. Weight the risks. Read ALL THE SIDE EFFECTS, which include death. Read the testimonials on this drug. Find alternatives. The worst decision I’ve ever made that will stay with me forever. Please read read read all about this drug before u consider using it on your best friend.
Only problem was (me) old dog learning how to work the site.
I've just had a stark reminder on what a great company Chewy is! First off, I thought it was Monday, but it was Sunday, so I called Chewy because of a concern about tablets that were a different color than I was use to. Talked with their front line service person but I wasn't satisfied, so she transfered me to the pharmacy, got a tech. wasn't satisfied with that, so she transfered me a a pharmacists! And the pharmacist was great! Told me what I needed to know to feel comfortable with the differences. She was wonderful ! And turned out this was all on a Sunday morning. I am eternally grateful to Chewy. At the same time I have been trying for days to get a refund taken care of thru a natural herbal pet products company that I have used for years but will no more. Their refund policy and the hoops you have to jump thru are ludicrous. Thank you, Chewy and may whatever powers there may be bless you all!
