Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic prescribed to treat many common bacterial infections including urinary tract infections as well as skin and respiratory tract infections in dogs. This medication may also help treat enteritis (inflammation of the intestine) that's caused by specific types of bacteria. Customers may receive this drug under the names Chloromycetin, Viceton.
UsesChloramphenicol is indicated for the oral treatment of specific bacterial pulmonary infections, bacterial infections of the urinary tract, bacterial inflammation of the intestine, and bacterial infections associated with canine distemper.
Possible Side EffectsNot intended for use with dogs who intend to breed. Some experiments indicate that this drug can cause, particularly females, significant disorders in morphology as well as in function of the gonads.
Drug & Food InteractionsChloramphenicol should not be administered simultaneously with penicillin or streptomycin.
Precautions
This antibiotic contains a chemical structure (nitrobenzene group) that is characteristic of a group of drugs long known to depress hematopoietic activity of the bone marrow.

How does this medication work?
Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic shown to have specific therapeutic activity against a wide variety of organisms. At low concentrations, chloramphenicol has a bacteriostatic effect on a wide range of pathogenic organisms, including many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, spirochetes, several rickettsiae and certain largeviruses and Mycoplasma.

Wear gloves

Lilly was very sick with staph infection. She has had 3 surgeries on her left leg since Nov 2018. After a successful Cancer removal/surgery on her leg, it was discovered almost a year later a staple was left in her leg. She had to have the surgery again to find it. After much resting, cleaning her leg she was fine Fall 2020. Post 3rd surgery all the medication and antibiotics this staph began to eat her skin around her ears and blood test showed her liver count is high from all her previous medications. This medication has healed her raw areas, the bleeding has stopped. This medication MUST be given every 8 hours, I use peanut butter and you must wear gloves when you handle this. Great option to get reliable meds online. About 60% cheaper than human pharmacy. Chewy representative was super helpful as this med comes in tablet instead of pill and there was a concern about dosage. Shipping was quick too. Very pleased and would use them again!

One of our dogs has had to take the antibiotic,chloramphenicol before and as he weighs 85 pounds that means 12 tablets a day for 14 days. Buying this antibiotic from our vet cost twice as much as it did from Chewy.com. The medication was delivered in 48 hours to our door. Thank you Chewy.com!
