Description

Some furry friends have a very hard time being separated from their pet parents, but thankfully there are ways to help. Clomipramine Hydrochloride (Generic) Tablets is a prescriptions medication formulated to help reduce clinical signs of separation anxiety. It works by affecting serotonergic and noradrenergic neuronal transmission into your pet’s central nervous system. And for easy oral administration, this medication comes in a convenient tablet form.

Uses

Separation anxiety in dogs six months and older.

Possible Side Effects

Possible side effects are emesis, letargy, and anorexia

Drug & Food Interactions

Data generated in humans. Plasma levels of tricyclic antidepressants have been reported to be decreased by the concomitant administration of hepatic enzyme inducers (e.g., barbiturates, phenytoin); therefore plasma concentrations of clomipramine may be decreased by the concomitant administration of phenobarbital. Plasma levels of closely related tricyclic antidepressants have been reported to be increased by the concomitant administration of hepatic enzyme inhibitors (e.g., cimetidine, fluoxetine). Caution is advised in using clomipramine with anticholinergic or sympathomimetic drugs or with other CNS-active drugs, including general anesthetics and neuroleptics. Prior to elective surgery with general anesthetics, clomipramine should be discontinued for as long as clinically feasilble.

Precautions

Clomipramine Hydrochloride Tablets are not recommended for other behavior problems, such as aggression. Studies to establish safety and efficacy of Clomipramine Hydrochloride Tablets in dogs less than 6 months of age have not been conducted.

Works OK but isn't a cure all.

This medication seems to put him to sleep. I'm not sure his behavior is much different, even with behavior modification training.
