I bought this for a feral cat who had kittens. I have a kitty house and after taming the bunch and getting them all fixed I wanted to ease them into the outside

I bought this for a feral cat who had kittens. I have a kitty house and after taming the bunch and getting them all fixed I wanted to ease them into the outside world. It worked great and even though they are outdoor kitties they still like their house at night.

Waste of Money

Dissatisfied is not a strong enough word. The only positive is that my cats liked it because it allowed them to stay outside on the deck. The construction of this product is poor. The wood is very thin and splits easily when putting it together. The pieces that are already put together are warped so when the catio is done it is not level and there are gaps where the bottom, sides, and top do not line up. The seats are too small for adult cats. I had to put two seats together in order for my cats to use them. Finally the worst is the so called weather proof roof. The very first time it got wet the panels collapsed and broke away from the frame that they came pre-attached to falling inside of the catio. This product is a disaster and I would not waste my money.

I waited to write this review for some months to see how it held up in the different seasons. I use this on my balcony in my apartment complex, 3rd floor. It was great for the summer and spring but I quickly realized with rain and even snow that the top of the catio sulks down and breaks. I’ve had to staple a tarp over the entire top to ensure some extra safety. I get its wood but I expected it to last longer than a couple months without breaking. With it being wooden it’s able to take in moisture and water from the air and get rotten and fall apart sadly. The roof of it has almost entirely come apart. The latch, to close the door, bad quality. It’s able to bend so easily and I’ve had to replace it. While my 3 cats surely have enjoyed it in the warm seasons i might have to recycle it this upcoming spring. It’s really hard to tell with the product pictures but it’s an open-floor, nothing holding it down. Strong winds can easily move or knock it down. Back to the product pictures, it is not that stable, I currently have mine up against a rail and a wall to ensure some stability. My cats enjoyed it, I did not enjoy it. I highly recommend not leaving your cats unattended in the catio, or any catio for that fact haha.

I think overall this is a good product however I only gave it 3 stars for a few reasons. You can't really tell it in the picture but the shelves for the cat to sit in are very very small. Smaller than my cat! They run aboit 8 inches by 15. Why on earth would you make shelves for cats to sit on - which they love and is an appeal for this unit so darn small. Kittens would be a great fit. Also the wood is very thin and this unit has no floor - so just make sure it will be a good fit for what you are planning it for. I am only going to use it on my front porch and even then may do so.e kind of tie downs. I have read about other cat enclosures where a predator got in a d the cat had no escape. I would never put this unit out in a yard and leave my cat alone out there in it. It could be tipped over or moved very easily. Also the latch/clasp that comes with it was useless so I am needing to go to a hardware store to see what I can use. There is very narrow wood space that it latches to. All if that being said the unit is a nice large size and I am glad I got bit will definitely make a few tweaks. I am going to try and fit a long board from one shelf to the shelf on the other side and make that long board a shelf - so my cat actually has something to sit on that she can fit on. I would recommend- jist under the right circumstances.

So it seems pretty standard upfront, you get your wood, you get your instructions, go at it. From the beginning, the instructions are Not The Most Clear, and this

So it seems pretty standard upfront, you get your wood, you get your instructions, go at it. From the beginning, the instructions are Not The Most Clear, and this isn’t a project for beginners. But a zoomed out set of instructions that tell you to basically go forth isn’t the big issue. Oh no, it’s that the Screws are right up against The Chicken Wire. RIP your hands from turning the many screws into the wood where yes, one side was pre-drilled for your convenience but not the receiving end where the screws go in. Prepare for raw knuckles as you turn your hand held screwdriver over and over again, your hand hitting the chicken wire with every turn. The wood is unfinished as well, so watch out for splinters! And then, after you’ve spent all that time, your fingers aching and raw from rubbing against chicken wire with all the force you have because the holes aren’t so much as punctured on the receiving end of the wood? You have to put the latch on. And it’s a pain. It looks fine all put together, but it’s difficult to move once it’s in place, and the actual putting-together is a pain. Once again, not for first time builders. Start with a bookshelf.

We are quite happy with it, for the price it is completely reasonable! Other reviewers have commented on the construction. I wouldn't describe it as flimsy, once it is fully constructed. The roof is a mystery though, I don't understand why it is designed to basically pool water. But I will drill some angled drain holes so it doesn't rot. Also I plan to water seal it as it doesn't appear to be weather sealed - water is definitely not beading. When constructing, the instructions say no power tools, but I *definitely* recommend using an impact driver or similar. All you have to do is take your time, make sure all the parts are both square and flush before you drill, and drill in very short light bursts to drive the screws. Also the door latch provided is garbage. I bought two hook and eye latches and put one at the top third and one at bottom third of door. it also could use a bit of shim wood as a brace on the inner side of the door to make sure it doesn't push in past the frame. But overall I think it is great. My cats can eat grass and be left outside long enough to puke it up before they come in. Don't forget to set a timer to check on your cats and always always ensure they have water!!

I will start with the positive. This catio was easy to put together. It's probably because the wood pieces are so thin that the (two men needed) in order to assemble is a joke. Then the roof, let's talk about the roof. Sure, this weatherproof roof would be great if it weren't in any weather! The rain sits on top, causing rain to splash, spray, and spill over, which then splatters all over, getting the inside of the catio wet. My fur baby was so unhappy. I had to put a tarp on top and angle the side, running down to create a water run off. Now, I can not figure out how to get my money back.
