Vet Formulated with Quality Ingredients

This high-protein food naturally optimizes your cat’s body mass and appetite levels through simple, high-quality ingredients. With added vitamins, minerals, and other trace nutrients, cleanprotein helps support cats in all stages of life.

Dr. Elsey’s cleanprotein

Dr. Elsey’s cleanprotein was inspired by the protein levels found in natural prey. By excluding plants commonly found in other cat diets, it has low oxalate to help ensure healthy kidney function and an active lifestyle.

The Kibble Cats Love

Protein is an important nutritional profile in your cat’s diet, with animal proteins having the highest biological values (BV) compared to grains, fruits, and vegetables. Dr. Elsey’s cleanprotein helps promote a healthy, active lifestyle for all cats.

The Proof is in the Protein

As cats age, they absorb and metabolize protein less efficiently. That’s why it’s so important to feed high-quality protein. High protein can help maintain lean body mass and support a healthy immune system.

What is the purpose of the hydrolyzed pork and pork plasma?

Answer by LunaAug 14, 2025
The hydrolyzed pork is probably just a cheaper protein source to boost the protein content. The pork plasma is being used as a binder in place of the typical plant-based binders used in other dry food.

What is the phosphorous content in mg/100g kibble?

Hello what is the phosphorus content?

Are ALL of the ingredients in Dr. E's food made in the USA or are some of the ingredients outsourced and made in Asia? Thank you in advance for your honest answer.

Answer by ChewyMar 07, 2018
Dr. Elsey's ingredients are carefully sourced and chosen based on quality. All proteins are sourced in the US. They try to source as many ingredients from the United States, but many vitamins and minerals included in pet food aren’t manufactured in the US. While nearly 90% of the ingredients are from the US, they source others from Switzerland, Germany, France, China, Scotland and Canada. Dr. Elsey's are extremely careful with their selection of each vendor to ensure they stick to equal or greater manufacturing standards that we have here in the US.

My cat and the community cats I feed love this food. The kibble size is very small, which they seem to like. This particular kibble is high in protein, grain free, and extremely low in carbohydrates. I believe one of the questions and answers on Dr. Elsey’s website says this dry cat food has less than 5% carbs, which is amazing.

Protein Packed!

I was looking for a kibble without grain, but also without peas, beans, and legumes which typically drive up the protein values but aren't easy for my kitty to digest

I was looking for a kibble without grain, but also without peas, beans, and legumes which typically drive up the protein values but aren't easy for my kitty to digest. Dr. Elsey's is protein packed with 95% of that protein coming from meat sources - no fillers. My tabby immediately loved the taste.

This food used to be amazing, but within the last half year my one cat has been having horrible diarrhea to the point he needed to go to the vet multiple times, has been put on supplements and meds which have not helped. I haven’t changed any of his food but we soon realized it was the dry food that was the problem. he has a sensitive stomach and the pork plasma ingredient used to be egg which is probably why so many recent reviews are so horrible. Pork plasma is not good if your cat has a sensitive tummy is causes diarrhea and vomiting. I wish they stuck with their old ingredients. If your cat has a sensitive stomach i don’t recommend this food at all. Also just so you all are aware i emailed them about my complaint and they told me they switched from egg to pork plasma because it’s cheaper! Cheapening out on food that’s supposed to be healthy for our babies but making prices of bags $50.

Great Healthy Food

My 3 cats absolutely love Dr Elsey dry cat food. I had to switch their food away from a different brand that had altered their ingredients, and I wish I did this sooner. They love it and I feel good about the ingredients. My ragdolls cost has had such a positive difference as well and looks fantastic.

My cats are very picky about food. I struggle getting them to eat good food!! They actually love this! I had asked for samples from Dr. Ellsley before I had to buy large bag that might not get eaten. They were so helpful sending me sample bags. So after they showed interest I bought the 2 lb bag. I will be moving onto the next size as they really like this food. Hopefully the continue eating it!

My kitty, who has some food insecurity issues and a lot of anxiety around eating, was throwing up quite a bit when I first adopted him, after switching to this dry food he almost never throws up. I think it’s a better quality product and it’s not bothering his stomach. A little more expensive but so worth it, my kitty is thriving.

Keeps cats lean

This is a great vet-suggested food for adult cats! Really helped my two 7 yo cats lose weight last year. It is VERY pricey for the amount of food in their largest

This is a great vet-suggested food for adult cats! Really helped my two 7 yo cats lose weight last year. It is VERY pricey for the amount of food in their largest bag. I recently switched to another option that maybe isn’t as good for weight management but I can support my local pet store and get a better price for a large bag.

Until my dog, Mickey, died from cancer I was a devoted Chewy customer. This is a fabulous company with truly amazing people. Every interaction I had with you for most of Mickey's 9.5 years (didn't know about you until he was with us about 9 months) was just terrific. You sell great products and everyone who works at Chewy is so knowledgeable and helpful in a most pleasant and, with me lol, patient manner. I had no idea what I was doing - never had a dog before and you got me through it on many occasions brilliantlly.

Food change guessing

I hoped this would have been a good choice of food. All 6 cats have gained weight. Kept telling my vet "what's wrong? They don't eat their 1/2 cup." So this last shipment when they ate it , pucked. Even my stray kitty pucked. Done with Dr.Elseys so called clean protein. I don't recommend based on my experience with what it has done to my furbabies.
