Description

Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra Clumping Cat Litter is a unique formulation that combines the heavy non-tracking granules of Precious Cat Classic with a medium grain clay. The result is an excellent clumping litter that prevents moisture from reaching the bottom of the tray, while providing a clump that will not break down. Ultra is perfect for multi-cat families and those cat owners with sifting or mechanical litter boxes. Like Classic, it has superior odor control.

Key Benefits

  • 99.9% dust free, hypo-allergenic natural litter
  • Contains no plant proteins
  • Hard clumping, medium grain clay
  • Multi-cat formula, superior odor control
  • Ideal for sifting/mechanical litter boxes

Cautions

Always wash your hands thoroughly after waste removal. A parasite sometimes found in cat feces can cause toxoplasmosis. Please do not flush cat litter in toilets or dispose of it outdoors in gutters or storm drains.

Special Note

Some products are changing from bags to boxes. You may receive either packaging until the transition is complete, but rest assured that you are receiving the same great litter!

We have just gotten a cat, so I have been litter experimenting. I look for affordable, dependable and natural. I really want the nice smelling stuff, but can't imagine sitting in a pile of deodorizer and scratching fumes into my face and lungs, so can't make my little friend do it. I look for litter that will keep the smell down without a bunch of chemicals to just mask it. This was my second try. It was okay. Clumped decently, the one I used first just performed better and was even cheaper. This litter is affordable and worked fine, I was just not overwhelmed with joy, still looking for that TA-DA litter! I will continue my journey to find the TA-DA! litter. I will let ya'll know! … more

  • 99.9% Dust Free???

The newer white bags do not compare to their previous product in the blue bags. They are full of dust, and do not clump well at all! First off about the dust: I have an air purifier with a hepa and carbon filter near the litter box and in the past I would change the black carbon filter once every 2 month (just to help with odors, and to extend the life of the hepa filter), however, since using the litter in the white bag, my carbon filter doesn't last but a few days...it gets coated and clogged with a grey sticky dust that will not come off even after vacuuming it! As for clumping: the same goes... the new product does not clump nearly as well as before. I maintain the litter box filled to its capacity, yet the urine almost always manages to make it all the way down to the bottom of the litter box, and when scooped up, breaks away into tiny pieces. The lack of great clumping isn't that much of a deterrent for me, as I change out the litter regularly, but the fact that my family is inhaling this cement type, sticky dust is very worrisome! I'm searching for something new! … more

  • New formulation ruined a great product

    By on

This was (past tense) THE cat litter to buy and I did buy it for my cats and recommended it to others as well. Then I received a shipment of the new packaging (and formulation) with branding name "Ultra". Upon first use of the "Ultra" litter I noticed a significant increase in the amount of dust. I also noticed that the litter clumping was not as strong as it had been. Now when I scoop clumps, small pieces fall off from the edges of the clump which are not big enough to be scooped out on their own, leading to urine smell buildup over a short period of time, requiring more frequent complete litter box litter changes. Please bring back the "Precious Cat" formulation! I would be a customer This was (past tense) THE cat litter to buy and I did buy it for my cats and recommended it to others as well. With that said, I don't feel that the "Ultra" formulation meets the high standards which I have come to associate with Dr Elseys products and I no longer purchase it. … more

  • New and NOT improved. Used to be exceptional, is now marginal at best.

    By on

This litter used to be absolutely exceptional. It had virtually no dust at all, and the clumps were like concrete. That was when it was the dark blue bag with the words "precious cat" front-and-center. On a recent order, I noticed that the bag has changed to be predominantly white. The words "precious cat" are totally gone, replaced by just "ultra" in a light blue box at the top. As far as the new white-bag "ultra" version goes, it is ultra dusty -- almost as bad as Tidy Cats. In addition, the clumping is now weak. Urine clumps break apart easily, and for the first time in almost a decade I smell cat urine. Very, very disappointed with this new version. • No Kitty Litter is Purrfect, But This Comes Close!

    By on

This is probably the best kitty litter I have ever purchased for my two boy kitties. I give it 4 stars, but only because it does off-put some dust, so it's still not the Holy Grail we're all searching for. But it comes close, and the dust is not the worst I've ever dealt with! I keep about 2-3 inches of litter in the box, and it clumps REALLY well. It seems to have almost no scent (which I prefer, as opposed to "perfumed" litter that smells like, well... kitty litter). I mix activated charcoal granules into this litter, and it really does increase the odor absorption. I use Marineland charcoal. This bag is EXTREMELY heavy, so be prepared to have someone with a good back help move it around This is probably the best kitty litter I have ever purchased for my two boy kitties. • You'll love this product if you actually follow the depth guidelines!

I absolutely love this product!! I didn't realize how great it really was until we were in a hurry and had to grab a box of arm and hammer at walgreens (which only made my house smell like cat pee covered by loads of perfume). This isn't scented, which is better for you, and your cat. However, even without scent, there is no cat urine smell (and I have a male cat) with this product. The trick is you MUST use that 4inches of depth to get the best product performance. You won't go through it faster that way, actually quite the contrary, and you'll get perfect scooping without it sticking! I find it less dusty than most clay litters as well. • it really does matter

    By on

I have been on a quest for a good litter for several months since the discontinuation of the brand I had used for years. I tried several different ones that made claims, but there were issues with each one, to the point where my oldest cat refused to use it at all and converted to a puppy pad. I chose this litter after researching the top 10. It is multi-cat, a very reasonable price, handles odors well, is not perfumed and I am most impressed with how dustless it is. Even my old girl who went on strike is back to using the box with no problem. A good heavy duty bag also, so no leaks even when the delivery box looks rough!

  • On the fence

    By on

As I read the description for this product, I had high hopes. In use I found this to be a marginal product. I like it much better than Tidy Cat yet less than Boots & Barkley. I found the clumping action to be weak and therefore the litter pan had a smell not usually present. I wonder if the litter's coarse grain size is the reason for both; Boots & Barkley is finer. I would not go out of my way to purchase this again under its current condition. My belief in the Chewy site and all that they do for we fur-parents, I may add it to my order if I'm in a pinch or it makes the weekly errands easier (after all, shipments are wonderfully quick...and to our door!).

  • Awesome! Just be generous with how much you put in the litterbox

    By on

Seriously. I have TRIED to cheap out on my cats -- Fresh Step, Tidy Cat (which my friend SWEARS by), but my mama cat always lets me know that she does Not Approve by leaving a fresh poop sitting on the litter, "unflushed". Dr Elsey's, without fail, is the only litter my three cats can all happily use without problem. It's pricey, but worth it. If this litter was sold in bigger quantities, I'd probably buy it. You NEED to be generous when you pour this litter and then it'll work amazingly. You'll get rock hard (seriously) clumps of cat pee the size of your fists if your cat drinks water like mine. I recommend getting a litter mat because this litter isn't perfect and it does track on furry paws Seriously. • The best kitty litter so far, but...

    By on

We have 5 kitties. 1 often has a problem outside of the box. Since we changed to this product, he has less and less incident. The only problem is that it sticks to the litter box, plastic or disposable cardboard (Nature's Miracle) to hard and I have to drop them onto the floor hard so that it breaks apart from the boxes. Boxes are deep, so if I put more litter, it eases this problem but my vet told me that some kitties do not like how they feel that their paws and legs are sinking into the litter. So, I keep it shallow, hence the problem. But because it clumps very very well, it keeps the box very clean as long as you remove the sticking soiled litter balls completely.
