About This Item

Details

  • A broad-spectrum halogen bulb designed to emit a more natural light and higher amounts of UVA rays
  • Reptiles need UVA light to stimulate activity, encourage natural foraging and aid in digestion. Regular light bulbs do not produce UVA and lack of it can cause illness and even death.
  • Also offers an increased level of infrared penetration for optimal thermo-regulation
  • Enriches animal coloration and stimulates breeding behavior through UVA ray
  • Highly energy efficient, compact design (GU-10 fitting) with 4750 K color temperature

Instructions

Halogen bulbs should not be touched with bare hands as the oils of the skin will significantly shorten the life of the bulb or cause it to shatter.

Ok, what's the major difference between a halogen bulb and a basking bulb? Both are used for heat/basking, right? Someone please explain the difference. Thanks.

Answer by ChewyNov 16, 2018
The difference between the two is in the composition of the glass envelope and the gas inside the envelope. They produce more visible light, they last longer, and they are more energy efficient. This product is a broad-spectrum halogen bulb designed to emit a more natural light and higher amounts of UVA rays.

What wattage would I need for a 10 gallon leopard gecko tank?

Answer by ChewyJan 30, 2021
For leopard geckos, we recommend the 100W or the 75W option. The 150W is too strong, and less than 75W is too weak. The light is bright and produces a good amount of heat. Combined with a good lamp or reflector dome, this will be enough to heat some of the air.

is this a tungsten-halogen Incandescent bulb or is it just a regular heat projecting filament? asking because I can't see the percentage of infrared A, B or C produced and i need more A,B...

Answer by ChewyMar 09, 2020
Halogen bulbs are actually an advanced variation of incandescent bulb technology. By adding a trace amount of a halogen gas (methyl bromide) inside the bulb, a chemical reaction removes the tungsten from the wall of the glass and deposits it back onto the filament, extending the life of the bulb. The Exo Terra Sun Glo Halogen Daylight Lamp is a broad-spectrum halogen bulb designed to emit higher amounts of UVA rays, contributing to the physiological well-being of reptiles. It also offers an increased level of infrared penetration for optimal thermo-regulation.

What size /w do bearded dragons need? I hear 60 alot?

Answer by ChewyAug 04, 2018
The wattage needed may vary depending on tank size. Use a 50-watt spot/heat bulb for a 20-gallon tank or 75-watt to 100-watt spot/heat bulb for a 30-gallon breeder tank. The height of the rock or the wattage of the bulb needs to be adjusted to get the basking spot to a 90 - 105 degree range.

Really bright and warm, but died after 5 weeks

I ordered this for my juvenile bearded dragon's enclosure. It is registering much better/higher temperatures for her, which is what I needed. It's also much brighter

I ordered this for my juvenile bearded dragon's enclosure. It is registering much better/higher temperatures for her, which is what I needed. It's also much brighter. I'm assuming I got a bad bulb, because it just died after 5 weeks of use. I'm hoping Chewy sends me a free replacement after reading this!

Top 1000 Contibutor

Not hot enough and they blow out

These don’t get as hot as you would expect from halogen. They also didn’t last more than a month before blowing out. Glad chewy started stocking Arcadia

I have an area in my basement where I store my feeder insects for my reptiles & dart frogs: Crickets [different sizes]; Dubia Roaches; Bean Beetles; Fruit Flies, Hornworms [sometimes], etc! Basement Heated/Cooled/Humidified [during cold month] at a Constant 365/24/7, just as the above “living areas”!! I have 5 “portable clamp light fixtures” [rated for 100w] clamped to specific areas of my basement ceiling wood beams, to shine down on feeder insect terrariums!! Also use a digital thermometer to measure temps on individual insect plastic terrariums!! And adjust lights as needed!! These Halogen Bulbs work GREAT FOR ME IN THIS SITUATION!!
