Questions & Answers

23 Customer Questions

what is the % of protein and fat in this food?

Answer by ChewyMar 09, 2019
The protein content for this formula is 35% and the fat content is 20.00%.

What is the digestibility of this food? Are any feeding trials done?

Answer by ChewyMar 30, 2021
Farmina's formulation team adhere to both FEDIAF and AAFCO standards. They currently have trials running at Cornell University and look to be able to publish those results in the near future. In addition, their scientific committee continues to look into further studies. The protein digestibility is around 88% with fats and carbs at least 95%. Farmina believes in proper evidence based nutrition and continue to combine scientific research with quality ingredients. They use a Twin-Screw Extrusion process (double screw extruder) that is mainly used in food production for humans unlike most pet food manufacturers. A twin screw extruder activates a mechanical process that ensures better gelatinization of starch by increasing the digestibility of ingredients by 20-25% when compared to single-screw systems. A simple way to look at digestibility in general is to monitor the stool. With higher digestibility, you typically see less waste overall.

This says or medium maxi, what does this mean ? I havean Australian Terrier puppy that is 8 weeks old. She is on a different puppy food and I am looking at Farmina to transition.

Answer by ChewyDec 01, 2019
Medium and Maxi are referring to dog breed sizes. Maxi is referring to large breed dogs. This dog food is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages including growth of large size dogs (70 lb. or more as an adult).

What is the calcium phosphorus ratio?

Answer by ChewyFeb 27, 2019
This food contains 1.30% Calcium (min) and 0.95% Phosphorus (min). This equates to a 1.4:1 Calcium to Phosphorus ratio.

Old recipe was great! New one not

All my dogs and cats were on Farmina food. All doing well. Recently Farmina announced changes to their recipes adding ingredients like wheat, changing chicken fat

All my dogs and cats were on Farmina food. All doing well. Recently Farmina announced changes to their recipes adding ingredients like wheat, changing chicken fat to pork fat, adding barley etc. Seems like they are doing it just here in the US and not in Europe. They have still the same great product. Highly upset that they add cheaper ingredients here in the food. Thats why I give it 3 stars. If you can get your hands on the old product produced in Serbia and not here in US it would be a 5 star product. Chewy still shows old recipe last time I checked. Farmina website shows new.

Great quality

Our breeder used Farmina for her pups and we continued with it when we purchased our puppy from her. Even our vet told us it's a high quality food.

Not this one for us

Unfortunately he had a negative digestive reaction to it. Not the failure of the product. Just the way he processed it. He loved the flavor. But we are going back

Hi! I have a coming 6mo rescue border collie x heeler named Juno! I got her off the euthanasia list and she is as sweet as can be! I did a lot of research on canine nutrition before bringing a dog into my home again and this was one of the best I found. Sourced from Italy, Farmina has consistently held themselves to a high standard regarding the ingredients and processing of their food. With the first several ingredients being : chicken, dehydrated chicken, whole spelt, whole oats, chicken fat, dried whole eggs and herring, your pup is getting high quality protein sources. 90% of that protein is sourced from animals. No corn, potato or legumes used as cheap fillers. My girl has absolutely blossomed on this stuff. Her energy levels are great, she's growing like a weed and her coat is just stunning. I bought my first bag locally after working with a registered canine nutritionist but will be buying from Chewy here on out (better pricing)! I feed this along with some water or canine bone broth to rehydrate, handful of Open Farm freeze Dried Raw, couple blueberries, salmon oil and Fera Probiotics and she scarfs it right down! So happy with this product and I HIGHLY recommend.

Food smells Rancid and also a Poor customer service person.

I ordered this food and Chewy delivered it to me the next day. However when I opened up the bag it smelled Rancid or sour. I took a large sample of the food

I ordered this food and Chewy delivered it to me the next day. However when I opened up the bag it smelled Rancid or sour. I took a large sample of the food to a pet shop near me and they thought the food was spoiled. The owner of the pet store said sometimes there is a pinhole in the bag and in shipping ,the food goes bad. I notified Chewy of this immediately. They want me to return the food. Never asking me ,if they can ship out another bag. They wanted Me to carry 26 pounds to a Fed Ex store to ship it back to them. Carrying 26 lbs from my car into the store is hard due to my age. Then the customer service said she would have Fed Ex pick it up at my house, but never answered my email for a day that I gave her. I also did not have a printer, so I now also have to wait 2 weeks for them to send me back a shipping label. and wait 2 -3 weeks for a credit. Farmina in reading the reviews that there area a few folks complaining about the smell . Is this food BAD or is this Farmina's quality? I hope when I send the bag back Chewy will let me know.

Didnt work for us

My puppy, 8 week golden retriever, had very loose stool, eventually becoming straight diarrhea after a week of this food. The food smells horrible, and my puppy

My puppy, 8 week golden retriever, had very loose stool, eventually becoming straight diarrhea after a week of this food. The food smells horrible, and my puppy might agree. She started to attack the food as it was being put down. My vet said this boutique food wasn’t going to help her develop if she wasn’t eating so we had to switch over to a major brand (along with some probiotics). No more tummy troubles after switching to a different brand. I personally would not recommend this product. Also, my puppy had the most rancid gas on this food.
