Answer by ChewyFeb 03, 2018
There is no ethoxiquin in Farmina foods.

What is the shelf life of a bag?

Answer by ChewyMar 26, 2020
An unopened bag of food will last until the expiration date stamped on the bag. Every expiration date will be different for each batch as different batches are constantly being produced. The expiration date will be stamped on the package for reference. Ideally, dry food and treats should be consumed within 6-8 weeks of opening the bag. Exposure to air, light, hot temperatures and humidity speeds up the rate at which foods degrade. To limit these effects, keep dry foods in their original packaging and store in a cool, dry location.

For some reason my dog has been ill for the past two weeks I expectedly and all has been ruled out we have been asked to switch foods and possibly have been given a bad batch of food perhaps. All is very unclear however we have one opened bag and the rest of the previous one this comment is about.

The last 2 bags of food I’ve ordered the kibble has been wet. It’s seems to have a consistency of oil but not being 100% I got rid of both bags. I’ve been feeding my dog this for 6years now and I’ve never had this issue. I’ve had dogs for 30years feeding all different brands and I’ve never had wet dry food(kibble). I’ll be looking into switching brands which is a shame because my dog absolutely love this food and I love having my dog on this food. Her skin/coat is amazing, and her stomach issues have gone to nothing. This is very unfortunate

No zip lock

Whyyy does the big bag not have a zip lock closure like the small one does?? Horrible design. Otherwise would be 5 stairs. How are people keeping the bag closed?

Thought it was a potential bad batch, but...

I recently got a new bag of food in July. We still had the old bag left, so I used the rest of that and opened this one around July 15th. Normally new bags, my dog is excited and tries to eat fresh out the bag. This time he didn't though which I thought was strange. He also usually eats consistently without any need for coaxing, upon this newer bag he was turning his nose up at his food! Shortly after his bowel movements slowed considerably, and then he got horribly sick and we ended up in the emergency vet and need antidiarrheal. He is 7.5 and is well monitored so I was confused to what caused all these issues for him. It stumped the vet as well. I came here to review ingredients and other info and see if anything changed and saw the reviews and update where the manufacturer changed to Serbia!!! Now to be fully clear, I have no proof any of his recent digestive issues are related to this, but it would certainly be a very strange series of coincidences. I was considering returning this bag to get a new one just in case it was bad batch. Which now seeing the manufacturer fully changed countries, just makes me question if something is seriously wrong with this dry food now. This sucks because my dog is so picky and has allergies and this has been the one food he has always consistently love and kept going for. His skin conditions also got better from suspected allergies. I have bene regularly buying this for almost 3 years now, and patterns have been very consistent. For so many things to change with the new bag in July and then his health and everything also, It is very hard not to think the food is the cause. If I can no longer trust the quality, why am I paying over $100 for this bag? Again not sure this was the cause, but the coincidences are a little crazy! This is incredibly disappointing. I am not sure what to even do right now. I think I definitely want to stop feeding him this bag and see if his condition improves.

I have been purchasing this for a couple of years believing that it’s a product of Italy bcuz on the front it states Italian Formula with the Italian flag. Closer inspection of a very faint stamp actually shows it to be made in Serbia. Who would purchase dog food high end made in Serbia? I should be reimbursed for this behavior but I’m definitely cancelling all future orders and others need to be aware of this.

This is the best dog food. The ingredients are excellent and meet diverse nutritional needs. All three of my dogs are on it. They are all extremely healthy, with great feeling coats, healthy eyes, noses, and smell so good. All extremely high quality ingredients. It’s expensive but worth it imo, because it’ll save on vet bills in the long term with how healthy they are! I’ve trusted Farmina for over 6 years now, and the recipe has stayed consistent and excellent.
