Questions & Answers

Please explain "low-grain" vs. "Grain-free".
Answer by ChewyMay 28, 2018
Natural & Delicious Low Ancestral Grain contains limited ancestral cereals (spelt and oats) and is comprised of 60% high-quality animal ingredients, 20% organic spelt and organic oats, and 20% vegetables, fruits, vitamins, and minerals. It is considered a low-glycemic food. A grain free food would not contain any grain.

I noticed the new formula lists the first ingredient as cod. Where is the cod sourced? Is this farmed and no longer fresh caught?
Answer by ChewyJul 12, 2019
The Cod in this recipe is wild caught from the North Sea.

Isn't Aloe Vera Gel Concentrate toxic to dogs?
Answer by ChewyMay 16, 2019
The center of the aloe plant, which is green and aqueous, is safe for dogs, however, the outer edges contain a white sap called the latex, which is toxic for animals. Aloe products and ingredients formulated for pets, like aloe vera gel, do not contain this latex.

How many cups in the large bag?
Answer by ChewyMar 27, 2019
There are approximately 105 cups in the 26.4 pound bag of dog food.

Formula and Mill Change—ew

I’ve been feeding Farmina N&D (either the cod or lamb) for three years now and LOVE it. High quality, made in Italy, and came with a ton of amazing European food guarantees like non-GMO. Just ordered a bag. Opened it to empty it into my big dog food Tupperware container and it looked and smelled really odd. The difference was super obvious as I had a few handfuls of the old kibble in the bottom of the container. Dog doesn’t like it. I investigate and I notice that the bag says, “Italian formula” not “Made in Italy” like it used to. Also, a lot of the marketing print isn’t in Italian and it doesn’t say non-GMO. I google it and apparently Farmina bought some mill in North Carolina where it is now made. Totally unacceptable and trying to look locally for some bags that were made in Italy.

Formula change indeed

I have used this food consistently for over three years now and as other reviewers have stated, there has definitely been a formula change. The food is paler in color, drier, and has no aroma of cod like it did in every bag before. It looks and smells like cheap dog food now. My sister uses this too and also noticed a change. We both contacted Farmina directly and we each got a vague denial of a change, but there are absolutely allowances in the United States within this industry that allow companies to be deceiving. Oh, and did I mention that simultaneous to this formula change they happen to be building their first U.S. facility? Hmmm.

New Formula

I’ve used this product for more than a year and been quite happy with it. My most recent shipment, however, is a new formula. Previously, when I opened bag, there was a distinct fish odor—not unpleasant, just very fishy, which is what I wanted. My newest shipment smells like oats, with almost no fish odor. I have horses and this new batch smells like my horse feed. What happened? Farmina is an extremely pricey food and if the formula has changed I don’t want to pay for it anymore. Is there a new formula, and if so, why wasn’t I informed?

could not get dog to touch it with a 10 foot pole

This food was so highly recommended I had high hopes and thought my picky pit Bull would like it. He turned his nose up at it multiple times, and would pick around the kibble. Fail.

Marina loves it!

My Portuguese Water Dog, Marina, loves it and I do too. It is so hard to find a high quality dog food that has grain in it. But Farmina does it.

Price of this food skyrocketed

This is a great formula. Hardened up dogs stools, kibble is favorably large. However, less than 2 years ago the large bag was $66-$70. It has now increased to almost $83–$86 a bag. Must look at a different brand and it’s hard to stick to one a consistent formula of any brand cuz the good stuff doesn’t stay stocked

Love Chewy & this food

I love Chewy. I switched my 3 dogs to this food several months ago. I've noticed such an improvement in my guys since the switch. My recent order has been stuck somewhere with FedEx for 6 days & still listed as pending delivery. It usually takes 2 days. I called Chewy and they are sending a replacement order at no charge. A huge relief to me & very generous of Chewy. I'm a customer for life!

Her skin has never looked better and she loves when it’s time to eat. So happy we found this as a solution to her food allergies.
