What are the carnitine and taurine amounts?

My veterinarian needs to know the sodium content - specifically the maximum. The bag only lists the minimum. This is for Renal food both dry and wet. (Farmina)

What is the protein, fat, phosphorus, and sodium in this food on a dry matter basis?

Answer by ChewyOct 27, 2025
This recipe contains 14.3% protein, 16.13% fat, 0.16% sodium, and 0.27% phosphorus, all on a dry matter basis.

How big is the kibble?

Answer by ChewyNov 02, 2024
This kibble has a diameter of 8-10 mm and a thickness of 4-6 mm. Although it is a rare occurrence, sometimes minimal variations inside the same bag are possible. As far as the kibbles are within the control range, everything is normal and as it should be.

Food is Rancid- 4 emergency vet visits in 4 weeks as a result

I have been buying Farmina Dog food for over 10 years and have always been pleased. About 4 years ago, I started buying this for one of my dogs with Renal Dysplasia. All 4 of my dogs were eating it with my vet's approval. The food is rancid BEFORE the expiration date causing 4 emergency vet visits in 4 weeks. I waited months to order it again to give them another try. Again, it was rancid at 10 months before the expiration date. I called Chewy, and asked for a refund, but they send another bag which was rancid when I first opened it. 3 bags in one year and they are all rancid before the expiration date. They must have changed their recipe or their ingredients but I can't trust anything from this company again.

She’s eaten farmina almost her entire life and she’s a picky picky puppy. So I was upset when I found out that she’d have to switch brands because of kidney disease (also kidney disease sucks), because she just wouldn’t want to eat whatever the vet suggested and I was right. She turned her nose up at all the other suggestions, she stuck with hills the longest but it took a ton of coaxing. So we were thrilled when we discovered farmina had a vet line. I ordered the wet first and she gobbled that down and was begging for more so I tried the kibble too! She likes the kibble even more! She keeps trying to get me to give her more. It’s great!

I did a fair amount of research after a friend recommended this food and my dog's renal values improved. After learning more about ingredients you really want your dog to have, especially on a somewhat limited RX diet, Farmina is top tier. Highly recommend. I feed my dog both the dry and canned and she actively eats both with a fair amount enthusiasm, especially for the dry food, considering she definitely prefers the cans.

I bought this dog food because the ingredients have a lot of nutrition. However, my dog won't eat it. She is not particularly fussy and has the beginnings of kidney disease but she just didn't like it. I tried mixing with wet food but no. It does have a strong smell. My other dogs eat it up no problem so I guess some dogs like it and some don't.

We were previously on hills prescription kidney care kibble but our pup kept getting intermittent diarrhea. After all testing came back normal, i decided to switch to farmina. I liked the clean ingredients without a ton of additives. Our pup’s tummy has been so much better with healthy poops. Her kidney labs have also never been better. Worth the switch

Dog like it

My dog’s kidney problems and she didn’t like this either. She eventually ate it if I put a topping on it, but other than that, she did not like it.
