All FirstMate diets contain top quality all natural ingredients. FirstMate’s Chicken with Blueberries formula includes chicken as a single source protein. The grain free, simplistic design makes it a great maintenance formula but also provides an ideal diet for dogs with allergies or digestion problems. A large quantity of fresh blueberries has been added to this diet for their antioxidant benefits. Antioxidants provided from blueberries promote a healthy immune system, urinary tract, increase eyesight and memory function, help prevent illness, and provide a nutritional source of dietary fiber. All FirstMate formulations are manufactured at their plant located in Chilliwack B.C. Canada with care.

Pregnant females increase feed intake beginning week 7 of gestation up to 25%.
Lactating females increase feeding up to 50%, feeding a minimum of 3 times per day. Feeding requirements vary according to breed and litter size. Monitor body condition of pregnant and lactating females and adjust feed accordingly.
When transitioning to our dry food from another brand, we typically recommend a 7-day transition period. Begin by introducing a small amount of FirstMate with the old food on the first day. Gradually increase the amount of the new food, decreasing the amount of the old food over the course of a week until they are eating exclusively FirstMate.
Our products contain natural ingredients without the addition of artificial coloring or binders. As a result, you may note variation in the appearance of our products between batches.
Our bodies and our pet’s bodies react differently with proteins and fats. An allergy is caused by the bodies reaction with the protein of what we’ve come in contact with. Our chicken fat is free of chicken protein and will therefore not cause a reaction for those animals with a chicken allergy.
No, FirstMate and Kasiks do not contain GMO ingredients.
Chicken meal is a concentrated source of chicken protein in which most of the moisture and some of the fat has been removed. Meals such as these provide nearly 4 times more protein than the fresh ingredients.
I ordered the wrong size of food I did not realize it came in small bites and I should have ordered that
I put my Black Lab on this dog food to help with his allergies, but over a year’s time the dog food made him gain over 15 pounds.
I have a very special GSD and she had a lot of allergies. This is the only dry food on the market that she can tolerate. She likes it and we cook her a special mix of ground turkey and specific vegetables and it solved her dietary problems. Could not be happier and my GSD also.
My 2 boys (23lb Boston and 105lb Lab/Akita)loved! They were gifted a sample bag for Christmas. They loved it. Chose the food over their treats! Too bad it's so expensive to buy. :(
Vet rec. not using this food due to it not having grains. I ended up ordering another dog food, but decided to try this one before donating it and glad I did my dog really enjoys this food.
I had previously purchased the 14 lb bag which was Small kibble. I saw this Larger bag and was like oh I'll get that. It arrived and I opened the bag and realized the morsels were huge. I didn't even know this came in different kibble sizes. Just heads up in case you need the smaller kibble size. Other than that this food has been great for our Cavalier King Charles who used to have urinary issues.
I have heard such good things on this brand and this particular formula so I was a little a disappointed when my dogs could barely chew it. It was so hard and crunchy. I will have to add water and or bone broth to soften.
One of my dogs have bad food allergies. I had the vet test him so we know what kind of food to buy. First mate was on the list. Of course none of the pet stores carried it. I found it on chewy and had the food in 2 days. Great job Chewy!
My Great Pyrenees has severe skin allergies to the point she bites and chews her skin until the skin is bare where she had fur and little red bumps appear and her skin is red and inflamed. I don't like to keep her on apaquil, but cytopoint doesn't work. Vet recommended this food. Had her on it for a month and her stools are still like pudding and sometimes just brown water. She doesn't like the food and won't eat it unless she's very hungry. Back to the vet I guess.
I love first mate’s products and their attention to clean well-balanced food. My Dalmatian, who is not a picky eater, won’t touch this food. When I tried to hand feed her some, she spit it out. I mixed some with other food and she picked out the other food and left this. A real shame.
