For sensitive pets, begin by introducing a small amount of the FirstMate in with the old food on the first day; then, gradually increase the amount of the new food, decreasing the amount of the old food, over the course of a week until they are eating exclusively FirstMate.
Our products contain natural ingredients without the addition of artificial coloring or binders. As a result, you may note variation in the appearance of our products between batches.
Our bodies and our pet’s bodies react differently with proteins and fats. An allergy is caused by the bodies reaction with the protein of what we’ve come in contact with. Our chicken fat is free of chicken protein and will therefore not cause a reaction for those animals with a chicken allergy.
No, FirstMate and Kasiks do not contain GMO ingredients.
Chicken meal is a concentrated source of chicken protein in which most of the moisture and some of the fat has been removed. Meals such as these provide nearly 4 times more protein than the fresh ingredients.
This is absolutely the best salmon LID food I've found so far and I've looked a LOT. We've also tried duck and lamb. Our very very very sensitive Dobie was on Canidae until they reformulated (again, they do this with some frequency, I'm guessing for cost reasons) and he got SUPER windy and stinky, if ya know whaddah mean. I tried this food because it contains NO thickeners. No cargeenan, no agar agar, no guar gum. Wow! But that comes with a catch: it's watery. Very. Think about what would happen if you had to flake up salmon, toss in some potato, and fit it into a can. If you don't like that consistency or your dog doesn't, don't get this. For us, we use this to feed his supplements in the morning and he also gets dry. And he's always liked his wet food, but this he goes BONKERS for. From the first can I opened, I nearly had a Doberman meltdown because I couldn't serve it up fast enough! It looks like salmon. It smells like salmon. And due to a slight mistake where my husband left the spoon on the counter... Well, I can tell you it tastes like salmon too. I hope this brand exists forever and they never change the recipe, I don't care how much it costs. I feel better feeding this than any other dog food, ever. PS: watch out for bones. Also works as a topper. And if your dog doesn't LOVE fish maybe try another FirstMate product.
First time trying this and I ordered a case. In many of the cans the food was too watery, like soup. I had to pour it out of the can, and my dog could only lick it up. Tried to contact FirstMate directly about this but no response. Would not recommend this product. Rather disappointed as otherwise it seems like a healthy and good food.
I liked the limited ingredients. Unfortunately the salmon did not a agree with our dog. It gave him a tummy ache and diarrhea.
FirstMate Salmon Formula smells just like the salmon you would cook yourself. That's because it is. My miniature poodle loves it. I do have to caution you, though. Salmon is a rich fish to begin with, so if your pet has a sensitive stomach, I would suggest using this only as a small topping or special reward.
My dog likes this food, but this last shipment, especially is very watery. I'm getting a can that's about 25% water! I don't like paying for water, so will not be continuing to get this food.
I got this for my male akita who is having terrible allergies and I wanted to get him off all proteins except for a high quality fish. I found a dry that really delivers and seems to be tasty for my male and female. I had a harder time trying to find a wet that would hold up to the scrutiny. I think this one so far is living up to the quality. I looked at a lot of other pure salmon cans, my other fav is the Against the Grain 100% one ingredient salmon but I was having a hard time finding that one. I would say this one really is great, you can see the good fish oil and my dogs really enjoy it.
It's a can of salmon. Great amount inside the can. Great for dogs allergic to chicken
Healthy, limited ingredients, salmon canned food for my boxer with food allergies. My last order was a bit more watery than usual though.
My Coton is a picky eater because she has a very sensitive stomach. We tried everything but she consistently refused to eat and had abnormal BMs. All foods with seasoning, preservatives and fillers upset her stomach. I started feeding her this salmon with boiled white rice and she LOVES it. She now consistently eats two meals a day and her BMs have become normal. We are all so much happier!
I add this to my 10 year old dog's FirstMate senior fish dry food. It smells pretty strong, but she dances around and whines for it as soon as I get it out, as she really likes it. Hopefully I can afford to keep getting it as it is a bit pricey...well worth it
