Firstmate Skoki Dry Dog Food, 40-lb bag

It’s been very difficult finding a food that works for my 2 year old Husky that for one, meets her strange dietary needs and two, is within my budget. She’s very active, has a high metabolism and will refuse to eat large amounts of food so finding a food that she would actually eat and maintain weight on was near impossible. All the other ‘performance’ brands had very high fat levels which unfortunately just didn’t sit right with her stomach. This food has a nice protein level with a lower fat but still maintains that high kcal/cup which is exactly what I was looking for. She eats 1.75-2 cups a day and has been maintaining at around 39-40lbs. I like the size of the kibble as it works much better for training than some of the other pea sized kibbles out there. She also LOVES to eat it, it’s the only kibble she hasn’t turned her nose up to. She will work for it and willingly eats it out of the bowl whereas with other brands she wouldn’t train for it and would take multiple days of putting her bowl up to get her to even taste it which I didn’t feel great about doing. Now for some downsides and the reason for the 4 star review and not 5. It’s really dusty, especially when you get to the bottom of the bag which isn’t a big deal unless you’re training with it, have fun with the kibble dust slime fingers. It also smells pretty funky which again, not a super big deal but there’s a lingering kibble stink after she finishes eating it and it makes her breath absolutely rancid. Then the last point, it’s taken her nearly 2 months to have solid stools and even now she’s still not fully consistent, but because she loves it so much and it’s basically our only option i’m sticking with it and i’m gonna try some poo forming tactics with her. I’ll try to update the review again once I’ve bought a second bag to make sure the recipe and everything stays consistent!
